How do I get more details on slimming world?
Hi inky, here's the link for Slimming World
http://www.slimmingworld.com/
Have a look at the site and see what you think. You can either join the online group or find a group local to you. Personally, if you can afford it, I'd go for the local group where you will get support every week from the consultant and the other members. Mine is brilliant and so inspiring. I think you will be surprised at how much you can eat as long as it's the right stuff.
I've just looked back at the other suggestions on here and am I right in thinking you're a man? If so, that changes things as men are allowed more 'syns' than women as they tend to lose weight faster than women, who have monthly hormonal fluctuations etc. I know in my group the men do really well!
Also how tall are you, and what is your weight? The more you have to lose the faster it goes once you set your mind to it. Do you drink alcohol? That is full of calories. Take into account how active you are. If you are holding down a full time job then 1000 calories will be far too low for you, you need at least 2000 a day but of the right kind. If you don't eat enough your body goes into 'starvation mode', and you won't lose anything because it is hanging on to the fat for survival because it thinks it is being starved. Think of your body as a fire or a car: both need fuel to keep running, if you stop putting in fuel then it won't function!!!
I'd say, have a look at the SW website, see what you think, and start your journey. Good luck xxKeep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

Night Snack/Drink (21:30 PM)
Coffee (250 ml milk, 5 tsp sugar coffeee) : 260 kcal
Reduce the sugar content in your tea/coffee to 1tsp
Instead of snacking on chocolate and crisps have a piece of fruit and a yoghurt instead.
Swap white bread for wholemeal
Eat cheese once per week and only have 2oz (if you grate it - then it looks more)
Get rid of the butter brioche rolls too - swap for wholemeal or use a pitta bread and stuff it with salad.
Get rid of the diet coke - it is full of sugar
You are not eating enough of the right things - don't eat your evening meal after 7pm (so no snacking after that time either), for instance if you eat meat then you could have steak with jacket potato and salad, you could make a meat pie and use filo pastry as the lid (you can buy ready made filo).
For me a typical day is:
Breakfast: coffee with semi skimmed milk, 1tsp sugar. scrambled egg on wholemeal toast.
Elevenses: an apple (if I have yoghurt then I may have that too).
Lunch: hard boiled egg, a selection of salad leaves, onion and tomato, followed by full fat yoghurt (low fat means high sugar content).
Mid afternoon: an apple and banana (depending on how hungry I am)
Early evening: (I might skip this if I am not hungry) - typically it will be a piece of fruit
Evening (Dinner): Could be a homemade pie with steamed veg or it could be steak, jacket potato and salad or something else entirely.
If I have a bad day eating stodge (including tons of chocolate) then I just start again the next day. I walk a fair bit and work in the garden to shift those pounds.
Sometimes I will make cake - I swap the sugar for Truvia and use a heck of a lot less of it. If I make a fruit loaf then I might give half to my neighbours but generally I make small fairy cakes and freeze them so I am not tempted to eat them all at once.
I have the Hairy Dieters Cookbook and use that a fair bit too - so I can eat healthily (I tend to freeze the excess portions for days when I don't feel like cooking much). The recipes work and are easy to follow and cook - my kind of cooking and if there is a veg or something that I don't like then I substitute it for something that I do like. The Hairy Dieters are the Hairy Bikers and they have shifted loads of weight and kept it off.
One way to make it look as though you are eating a lot is to have a smaller plate. To stop snacking on bad stuff - have a fruit bowl handy.0 -

Thanks Horace.
On Diet Coke I checked their calorie content there is no sugar in it, the whole can is < 1 cal {Energy:2.0 kJ, 0.5 kcal, Carbohydrate: 0 g - Of which Sugars: 0 g}
I have the hairy dieters book i will try some recipes from there, due to my working hours I end up having meal around 8-9 PM.
Silly question : On Salad Leaves I have not tried them much so not sure which to go for, any good recipe website ?
my issue is due to non-availability of quick food i snack on un-healthy food. so will have to plan properly ahead.
I am already feeling knackered today after my breakfast and don't know what to eat!0 -
100 mls of milk in a cuppa seems a lot to me... and ditch the added sugar completely and no sweeteners, in a couple of weeks you will wonder why you ever took sugar with your tea and coffee.
Use wholemeal bread, rice, pasta etc, anything that is whitened is usually not good.
Ditch the chocolate and try a fruit bars, like the goahead brands if you feel the need of something to dip in your tea.
Try subtituting bread for ryvitas and top them with things like sardines and makeral.
Ditch the cheese for cottage cheese.
Ditch flavoured yoghurts for fat free nataral yoghurts which you can sweeten with a few rasberries, blueberries and grapes if you need to.
Use a blender to make your own vegetable soups.
Dont bother with low fat spreads, stick to butter and whole milk, they are thought to be generally healthier.
I did this last year and a long with daily workouts lost 3 stone and now have a BMI of 21.
Don't just go 'on a diet' as they don't work long term.0 -
Regarding the milk, I find milk goes further if I use a flask to make hot drinks. I too go to slimming world been going 1 year 9 months. I agree with posters who say swap sugar for sweeteners- some are better than others so do a bit of trial and error to find which you like best. For breakfast no reason you can't add things like tinned spaghetti (100cals) to your toast. You can also make a fry up for relatively low calories which should keep you full longer - make sure you use frylight or grill/use microwave to cook it.
As for snacks- it is amazing how many calories you can save by realistic swaps- things like French fries, quavers are often under 100 cals. Poundland is a great place to get low calorie crisp snacks.
I further agree with people who say to add more fruit and veg to your diet. There are great ways to do this without having to chomp down on a pile of fruit or veg if you aren't keen on them. One thing I like is home made bbq sauce made from tomato passata and Worcester sauce - it is great for things like hunters chicken, dipping homemade nuggets in or dipping home made fat free chips.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0 -

actually i don't have much of a sweet tooth but i feel hungry and because of no other food options i end up snacking on sweets.
I am not much of a fish eater so will have to find other options : shredded chicken/veg wrap?
I am m/35, going down from 2500 to 1500 looks like a lot to me, but i will try
Ah apologies I assumed that you were female. In that case go to 2000 per day or for more challenging goal 1700. Anything like fish, chicken, meatballs that you eat is generally lower calorie than you'd think. But careful about adding creamy sauces on. Or eating lots of potato/chips/rice/pasta with it as that's where the majority of calories comes from.
Try and eat more meals rather than snacking as well as snack food tends to be high calorie but not filling.
I do not think you need to follow any special scheme or join any clubs, just reduce calories and try and burn off extra via exercise. That's all there is to it even though it's not easy but it does work. In the first two weeks I dropped to 1200 and was pleasantly surprised when I realized I'd lost ten pounds and that's from someone who'd never dieted before.0 -

Diet coke is dreadful. Salad leaves could be a bag of mixed baby leaves: eg rocket, chard, mizuni, lambs lettuce. Or you could just get some lettuce.
Have you got a slow cooker? If you haven't then get one (I have a small one from Wilkinsons). I often make fridge forage soup using whatever veg I have in the fridge - usually I find an onion, a carrot and some tomatoes which are going over, I chop them up and bung them in the slow cooker, cover with water, add a handful of pearl barley, black pepper (I don't cook with salt), a beef stock cube (this may have added salt hence the need not to add extra at the start), leave it on a low heat and by the time you get back from work you have soup (I then use my stick blender to mush it up a bit so it looks creamy).
If you have an Aldi near you then that is the place to go as they will have veg and fruit offers on as well as various meat offers. As you are coming home late, how about spending a weekend batch cooking and freezing stuff so you can bung something in the microwave when you get home (at least you know it will be nutricious).
I see a health trainer so I am always conscious about what I eat these days - I am actually eating more and I am losing weight.0 -
Some things jump out at me straight away (apologies if others have already said them).
Change the white bread for brown bread.
Stop taking sugar in your tea and coffee (or at least wean yourself off it using sweeteners). Also try to reduce the amount of milk in coffee, and/or switch full fat for semi/skimmed if you haven't already done so.
Switch milk chocolate for dark.
I have a sweet tooth like you, and...brioche is just never going to help you. SorryI live in France (the land of croissants!) but just keep walking past the bakery windows/that section of the supermarket. If you make your own cakes and biscuits at home, rather than buying them when out, you're less likely to eat them in large quantities as you're more mindful of the time it took to create them. Equally, you may find you consume less of what you've made yourself as it may be richer/of higher quality than what you buy in some shops.
Whenever I feel like something sweet, I try to go for fruit that's easy to eat on the go (e.g. blackberries or raspberries) rather than sweets. Some cereal bars can be good too (e.g. Nakd bars). Keep up the dried fruit
Savoury-wise, rice cakes with squeezy Marmite is dead easy to prepare as a snack. Nuts are another healthy on-the-go snack option.
Hope this helps a bit! I have a really sweet tooth too and reducing sugar intake is very difficult.0 -
Great ideas for obvious swaps already above. You are eating tons of empty calories and having very little nutritious food. If you have porridge or even wholegrain toast with your morning eggs you will find that you will not get hungry so quickly. Maybe try a banana or some nuts and raisins for a mid morning snack if you cannot last until lunchtime. Also hummous and veg sticks can be good.
Try to eat more protein, veg and fruit rather than all the white sweet stuff.
I find spinach leaves are good for salad."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
