They do, its called the NI stamp.

Yes, but the state doesn't pay your mortgage if you lose your job. An insurance scheme can do this.

Plus your other costs. If you earned a good wage prior to losing your job, it is far more likely you will have high expenses that still need to be paid when you lose your job.

My friend at DWP tells me this is what they do to people they suspect are working and claiming, so they get you in daily.

Don't think you're better than other jobseekers just because of your past. It just means you are intelligent. Doesn't necessarily mean your motivation to work is any better than someone who has been on JSA for many years.

Mind you, I agree you shouldn't have to go through pointless hoops just to claim your poxy £72 odd per week.

I never stated I am "better" than anyone else.

I work hard for what I have, always did - so I see the results and resent different view in life that a lot of people seems to have.

So it's lucky you got a job in the end & weren't reduced to your formula after a year.

Luck has nothing to do with it, sorry to disappoint you.
But no doubt if you had been unemployed longer, had other problems, you'd be suggesting a different formula.

You have no idea what problems I may have had/have.
Unfortunately many people are too stupid to take into account situations they haven't experienced.

Which you have just proved with your post. Thanks.
And you took advantage of your year's unemployment to find a well paid job, so it's unfortunate to see you slag off other unemployed & those on benefits you thought weren't deserving.

Ermmm.. I won't even comment on THAT. Apart from - wrong again.
It lets you down, would have thought you'd have learnt more.

Stay in your bubble if you are happy there. xx

Arrogant? If telling the truth instead of !!!!!footing around is arrogant in your books - fine.

You know nothing about me so personal attack is out of place and this what you do - attacking me personally on a general thread.

Something in my posts rang a bell for you and that is why you are trying (and failing) having a constructive go at me? Keep trying...as everything in life takes an effort.

Guess what? I was a single mum for nearly 20 years - instead of keeping on having more kids I actually stopped at one and have done everything I could to get to where I am. With no help from ANYONE.

I had/have a lot of other "issues" but nothing ever stopped me from getting where I wanted to as I do not use excuses to get through life.

So get off me and get a life - for yourself, like I did.

Why should you have got more in JSA when you were looking for work, compared to others? Just because you earned a lot in the past, does not mean that you should get more than other jobseekers whilst looking for work.

    Why?

Simple - if something is called "contribution based" it should be based on contributions.

I did not just earn a lot, I contributed a lot too.

People who never worked - never contributed so they get "income based".

    Can you see the difference?

If not, I give up - honestly...

No - the system should not try to distinguish between the deserving and the non-deserving poor.

Well-off people should not buy so many goods on credit when earning good money, in order to keep up with the Joneses. Additionally, they should set up income protection schemes to protect them if they fall sick or lose their job if they would be in dire trouble, should the worst happen. (the government should intervene in not allowing companies to put in so many restrictions upon the situations in which people can claim),

The National Insurance contributions you make are designed to benefit society as a whole (and not just you and your family). An idea that people have forgotten in the selfish world today. If you receive a lot in the form of wages, you should contribute more to society as well in the form of NI contributions (and tax). Although I do tend to think that better-off people shouldn;t have to pay a higher rate of National Insurance payments percentage wise.
