But, as I say, they live in a beautiful house, in the suburbs, complete with the obligatory swimming pool etc., and share an extended family holiday lodge up by the lakes, would never be able to afford this life over here, and I suppose you trade one thing for another.

Hey Lin, I think in the UK you can afford more because you do not have to pay health insurance. I pay over $5000 for my health insurance. If I was in the UK I would be much richer.
