A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Thanks for that MB info, Ed.
I envisage it as more of a pin money thing, to be done when I have a bit of spare time, so a bookie a week will be fine, to start off with.
However, if I get enthusiastic about something, I do tend to spend a lot of time on it.
I started on eBay to sell just one item, found that I liked it, and at one point was selling 20-25 things a week, and that was when I was working full time
So if I find that the MB suited me, I'd probably pick up the pace:)Early retired - 18th December 2014

Not the worst Monday ever, managed to force myself back into the working groove
Feeling very motivated by savings and investments at the moment, can't be a bad thing?- Slightly overdue, but we now have no unsecured debts (even the stoozing has finished!)
- Got a refund from our Edinburgh hotel because a package of snacks and drinks wasn't as expected
- Set up a free £20 MB for Mrs E
- Added £175 to P2P investing account
- Added £100 to EF
- NSD (finally!)
Had some really interesting conversations on Saturday night with an IFA about index vs. managed investing; mortgages and lifetime spending goals :money:0 -
I keep pondering whether we need to meet with an IFA about investing and spending aims - not sure where to start though. Where did you find yours?Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

We're related, and I disagree with at least half of what he says! :rotfl:0

Funnily enough, I've got one I'm related to ... and I didn't go to him for advice
though I have *another* rellie who's a para-planner, the ones who support the IFAs - I went with his company
I have five nephews and nieces, and four of them are in the financial sector in London ...
I'm not sure what the EF is, tho it must be good, if you're adding to it :j and those figures look good!
My day tomorrow is free unexpectedly - I'm definitely going to set up a matched bet for Wednesday.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
This one is old school - all high charge managed funds, tax minimising tricks and no recognition of the role that chance has played in his personal success/wealth
EF = emergency fund, gotta build up some cash as well as the investments.
Also on the good news front, work have pretty much resolved my underpaid pension issue, now within spitting distance of £££££ figures :T0 -
:doh:Emergency Fund :rotfl:
Great news on your pension dispute resolution!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
It's nearly finished now KC, just some acturial nonsense to figure out what growth was lost, another small payment and then on with the show. In even better news, I'm now at £££££ figures :j
It's exciting, but the thought that Mrs E and I may need assets to the value of £500,000 to sustain our current spending *without* the mortgage is terrifying
This is why I get a little twitchy when MFW people focus on paying off their mortgages to the exclusion of everything else. As always, reduced spending and increased income go hand in hand like happy friends.
I'm reasonably happy with our progress, but there's always more to be done- £350 paid to S&S ISA (we now have enough bonds to offset 10% of the total value of our stakeholder pensions)
- Increased our monthly DD to the S&S ISA to £165, split equally between 3 index funds
- Sent off some missing information to Good Energy to complete our switch (our move to a more expensive utility provider may seem counter-intuitive, I basically don't trust the big names to behave honestly any more!)
- Replaced an LED lightbulb in the bedroom that was creating an unsettling disco effect
- Managed to automate a work task that has previously taken 1.5 hours a week, every week)
- Moved some MB money, absolutely nowt on this evening
Dinner was HM sausage casserole done on the hob with garlic ciabatta croutons. Burp0
