It's an exciting world
In other news, I managed to start glossing our living room skirting boards. To be honest, some of the existing paint is far too thick and bumpy and sanding is only making things crack. So my thinking is probably just to 'key' the surface and carefully prime/gloss to the best of my ability without being too prissy about it. If we have the inclination, we can try our original plan of replacing all the woodwork in 10 years or so, but the £15k+ cost was prohibitive at this point.0 -
I'm sure that's the right decision, Ed - you can live with bumpy gloss for a few years2023: the year I get to buy a car0

I'll probably stop noticing it by :santa2:0

Our skirting boards were all wonky, plus they'd been attached to the wall like nobody's business...giant nails, screws, you name it! We sanded them for about 2 minutes, used wood filler on all the holes left from the fixings, and slapped a couple of glossy coats on top. Once furniture is against them you really don't notice, thankfully!0

Sounds like a plan + I'm hoping the fact that we'll be removing the wonky beading around the edge of the room will extend the carpeted area and hopefully hide some of the worse bits. So far I've identified black! gloss, green emulsion and 2 layers of cream/white gloss on some areas. Suspect that the house would fall over if we removed the skirtings :rotfl:0

Oh you should see the 100+ plus coats of being paint painted over the flock wallpaper in my landing/stairs/hall area.
I think the structural integrity of the whole house may come into question when I eventually remove it!  :eek:Debt: £11,640.02 paid in full! DFD: 30/06/20

Am I the only person who has a perverse desire to get rid of old wallpaper and paint (even when I'm fully aware that the wall underneath is a disaster area)? I think it's the DIY equivalent of picking scabs :rotfl:0

I massively celebrated the day that the last bit of wallpaper was gone from our house. Just knowing it was there (even though I didn't have to look at it) made my brain itch.0 -
I was actually disappointed at how easy it was to remove the modern wallpaper from our living room. After the hellish battle against latex coated paper in DD's room and the mysterious wall crater, it was a bit too easy....0
