I've bought meat from farm shops quite often before , but we have some lovely local ones, including organic when I was in my 'must buy everything organic and eco' phase. Have also bought Riverford's meat boxes and they are nice (usually buy them when I've had an offer sent)

Groupon sometimes have offers on for good meat purchases - possibly worth having a look-see on there x

A pity you don't have any local farms. Are you planning to live in the city long term or to move to a more rural area when your daughter is a little older?

Realistically, I would expect us to live in the city for quite a while, perhaps our whole working lives. I love the countryside (the house owned by my parents in the Western Isles of Scotland is as close to paradise as I can imagine), but the sums have never worked. Minimum of another 5-6 years in the city, we need the free childcare ;)

Thanks Skinty, will check that when I get home this afternoon :T

I have now joined the ranks of the technologically fancypants with the purchase of an activity tracker. I look forward to babbling with those of you who are also part of this exclusive club of people with a wallet (and pulse) :)

Unfortunately, I do think living out of a major town / city during your working life is a financially bad idea. My wife drives 25 miles each way to work which costs about £50 per week in fuel alone and we live just under 7 miles from the nearest town. I go there just about everyday to buy lunch etc. So living here works out to be expensive.

Your parents are very lucky to live there. :) I've always fancied the idea of going on holiday to some quiet Scottish isle but I'll admit the weather puts me off and Mrs. K. likes to go to cities.

Had to look up what an 'activity tracker' is. :rotfl:

    Yes, I'd agree she's a bit young for a Jag. ;)

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Looks like a smart watch, most of the data shenanigans is handled through the phone app. Will combine with my new fancy scales to tell me a) how much I don't exercise and b) how fat I am as a result :rotfl:

Donald Russell as others have said often have great offers so don't be put off. Though what's wrong with an ashet pie :D.

I have only bought their offer boxes and only when it is free delivery. The taste really is good!

Hi there, looking forward to hearing about your step count on a regular basis Ed. I have a Vivofit which doesn't look as nice as the one you have but keeps track of steps and sleep. I do like it. Being a numbers person I like to see my activity being quantified. Then I check the app and there is a weekly competition with leaderboards, which appeals to my competitive streak! DH thinks it looks like a prison tag though. :(

Re the Western Isles, DH and myself went there on our honeymoon in June 2009. It was wonderful. One of my favourite memories was coming across Reef Beach on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. It is a perfect sweep of flawless white sand, about a mile long and it was deserted. The beach slopes gently out and the sea was a perfect turquoise colour. The sun was shining so DH and myself went running out in our swimsuits into the water, imagining ourselves to be on some exotic paradise island. Our feet quickly changed direction as we splashed into the sub-zero temperature of the Atlantic. It was bloomin' freezing! It still makes me laugh. Our feet were blue. Wonderful place though.
