visit your local farm shop and ask for a tour around the farm
I'm not sure if I've mentioned the fact that I'm within walking distance of Glasgow city centre? :rotfl:
Supermarkets get much of their meat from farms (and not just sprawling mega farms), so not entirely sure that is the answer...
If I could afford 2kg of freshly cuddled, rare breed, free range beef for a few bowls of noodles I would be laughing0 -
Your post made me :rotfl: Now when I buy meat I'll be imagining the animals being cuddled on a regular basis. I tend to only buy organic chicken and the rest of my meat from C@stco. Maybe worth checking their website as they sometimes have good deals on meat. Your chum could then go shopping for you.

That's a really good idea Tilly, sure they'd be up for helping out with some insanely large purchases of beef0

Just wait til Juliet is a toddler - a trip to a local farm will be a cheap day out and you can buy fresh meat at the farm gate. Often not that much more expensive here in the South East - I did go though a phase of buying all my pork direct from a farm where the pigs were often seen in tin baths by the roadside on a hot dayOnly stopped when time pressures took over.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
People! There are no local farms! :rotfl:
We have the wonderful townie approach to meat. A local community gardening group raise two pigs for slaughter and people protested when they were eventually taken for the inevitable :rotfl:0 -

I can't speak for Glasgow but down in Hampshire its cheaper and better meat in the butchers near me than worse quality meat from the supermarket. Definitely worth having a look at your nearest one.

Our local butcher is pretty crappy, very heavy on the sorts of things that 70 year old housewives buy. No insult intended to 70 year old housewives, but their stock is honest-to-goodness the stuff my Gran was buying 20 years ago. So great if you want half a kilo of mince, some sausages and a ready made steak pie, pants if you actually want a bit of interesting meat.
We have access to the uber fancy Wh0lefoods Market, but that's a 2-3 times a year treat as they cost the earth
Wondering how much a farm in Glasgow city centre would cost now. Imagine it would run into the millions, even if you could get around the fact that all the land is brownfield sites
I guess GG's suggestion is leading...0 -

Ed, there are a couple of good mail order places that deliver, we have used them and the meat is wonderful, not expensive when you buy packs on offer. When I remember the name I will let you know.
