The calm before the storm (neat nurseries full of clean baby clothes and blankets) is lovely. I think I may have spoken too soon re. Mrs E's cheer levels, I think she has started to enter the uncomfortable final stage of pregnancy. 6 weeks on Sunday.0

Poor Mrs E! Rolling sounds very sensible, but if you're big enough to need to roll, you're big enough to be uncomfortable

Protein ... I *do* put pumpkin seeds (and linseed) in the porridgebeing a namby pamby wuss living in the south of Englandshire
tho its actually because they're both mentioned as good against arthritis, though the dose really needs to be therapeutic, not dietetic.
I've also just started putting a teaspoon of peanut butter in - keeps me full for longer, I found the tip on the MMM forum
You don't mention cheese, Ed - if cow's cheese sends your stomach funny, you could go with feta, as long as its made from sheep/goat milk? The cheap stuff isn't.
When rellies who're non-veggies have been on the Atkins, sliced ham has been very convenient - its so portable, when you're out of the house for long hours.
A couple of brazil nuts (not much more) every day is great for your selenium levels. Put them with some walnuts (brill protein) and chuck in some dried fruit for yumminess, and thats another really portable snack.

So far (one week in, so early days), I've been focusing on egg whites, oats, almonds and peanuts, peanut butter, black beans and yoghurt. Yoghurt doesn't like me.
I'm not entirely sure about cheese, it's a bit hit and miss. Softer cheeses like feta seem to disagree with me, hard cheeses are ok if eaten in small amounts. That reminds me, L1dl are doing manchego for £1.xx this weekend, I blummin' love that stuff! Still, quite high in fat, so little and not often.
Hoping to introduce hulled millet, amaranth, pinto beans and maybe some more soya next week. Meat wise, lean turkey will probably be my go to. Chicken breast also has a fairly decent nutritional profile but it's expensive and bland.
Thanks for the comments re. protein powder Watty. I will bear it in mind and do know a reasonable supplier of that sort of thing (I've used one in the past who have very good prices on fish oils etc. and are reliable). For the short term, I would prefer to get my food as unprocessed as possible. That's not a criticism of your breakfasts (and is probably faddy food snobbery), but I like to prepare and eat food that looks like 'something' (IYSWIM)?0 -
Ed, after reading through your diary and thinking about your new direction to financial independence it has got me thinking about financial planning for retirement. Are there any sites etc that you can recommend for working out what sort of money we want for our lifestyle in retirement? AJM, it's a very subjective thing, how much we'll need to retire.
Some people will tolerate a lifestyle that to me seems a bit like we've moved from the UK to the developing world. There's nothing wrong with that, money doesn't make you happy, but I think we'd all agree that a bit of money doesn't make you unhappy?

Our net worth target is approximately £500,000. Written down, it seems ridiculous, but half the people on this forum live in houses that cost at least half of that! We could sustain our current lifestyle (including mortgage payments) on that with some room for fun. It also excludes state pensions and the possibility of inheritances in a few decades because we've no right to anyone else's money, but won't say no if anyone insists! :rotfl:
I've recently improved my book keeping, but at the current rate, we're c. 22 years away from that (ignoring compound interest/growth, which will hopefully take a good chunk off).
The maths is scary, but empowering.0
