I wasn't entirely sure about North Berwick (or perhaps I should say the sort of person who visits there). While it was very pretty and had the seaside and a lot of shops and services, the only visitors bar ourselves seemed to be rude people 50+ who seemed to think nothing of trying to shove past my heavily pregnant wife!

Rude old people on holiday is a problem everywhere.

You should be very proud of her, took me another 5 years from that before I even realised that I'd need a career. Slow learner ;)

Time for a mini milestone dance - S&S ISA has now reached £££££ with a fair wind from Mr Market :T

I was fairly confident that focusing on assets rather than paying off debt would work in the long term, but I hadn't expected the 'mortgage neutral' option to bear fruit quite so quickly. Mortgage vs. investments/savings gap is now well under ££££££.

At the risk of missing the point, do you need special furniture? Obviously you need a cot and maybe a chair, but what else?
We will be swapping bedrooms so our room will be the spare room (hopefully nursery). We're chucking all our rubbish furniture when we start building so will need to refurnish when it's done :)

Hang on, do you mean what I think you mean? That your investments are "paying" you as much as your mortgage payment, so that you're mortgage neutral every single month???

    Ed!!!! Thats fantastic! :j:j:j

Oops KC - think I may have oversold my success there - there's an extra '£' in the mortgage gap figure vs. the ISA total. So no, still very much paying interest. I was just pleased that we've managed to invest c. 7% of our home value in less than a year!

Probably muddying the waters, I meant mortgage neutral as assets vs. debts, not avoiding interest (which is more of an offset thingy)
