We had a lovely (somewhat spendy) day away in North Berwick.
I wasn't entirely sure about North Berwick (or perhaps I should say the sort of person who visits there). While it was very pretty and had the seaside and a lot of shops and services, the only visitors bar ourselves seemed to be rude people 50+ who seemed to think nothing of trying to shove past my heavily pregnant wife!
Shop and restaurant staff were pleasant and accommodating, but I don't think we'd go back. The hotel (Nether Abbey) was the highlight of the trip, with some of the friendliest, most attentive staff I've had the pleasure of meeting and fantastic food. As well as attractive rooms and a restaurant area, the bar was packed with locals and seemed like a very lively spot.
We're back now for Easter and are plootering around while listening to lovely music (currently the theme for the Grand Budapest Hotel).
As it traditional, there's lots of lovely food and drink around. Breakfast was Inverawe smoked salmon with walnut bread and poached eggs and I'm just about to tuck into some HM kale crisps with smoked Hebridean sea salt, garlic and onion. Oh yes - there's chocolate too :EasterBun
Other than that, doing some minor housework and have started washing clothes for the baby. The final piece of furniture has arrived now, although a negative review will be materialising for the provider some time soon (a bit of a saga).
Hope everyone is relaxing and taking care of themselves and their loved ones :beer:0 -
Bought the last few things we need for the baby, we should be good to go now0

Sorry you found visitors in North Berwick grumpy, we used to go lots when DS was small and folk were always lovely, must have been an off day - perhaps they'd given up wine and chocolate for lent?Mortgage OP 2025 £6250/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000

Sorry to hear your time away wasn't great
what furniture have you bought for yours? We're struggling to find stuff that is nice but isn't horrendously expensive!

Thats bad! Sorry to hear that - but I'm glad you were safe and catered to in the hotel at least. Lovely food you've got going on at home2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Ditto. We ended up getting stuff that I still consider expensive, but was on offer. Nice Mamas and Papas set, Snuzpod and an armchair for Argos. Not much change from £1k
Looked at second hand, local etc., but would have faced the dilemma of trying to carry 50kg pieces of furniture up stairs. Completely impossible with my injured shoulder blade and would have involved van hire etc. That's probably a bit justificationbot, but I wasn't able to make the re-use choices I would have liked0 -
I'll have another look at mama and papas - furniture is not cheap!Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

It's a rotten swizz. I probably would have gone full out scaff if I was making the decisions (baby sleeping in a sock drawer, army surplus pram etc.), but Mrs E had a say as well
I'm trying to justify it to myself in that we'll use it a couple/few? times and will donate it to charity afterwards. In any case, left feeling a bit skinto.0 -

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0
