Just think about the council tax, heating, leccy, insewerants, et.c et.c bills and the CLEANING.

    Absolutely, but the SPACE!
The question is what amount of debt that equates to and how much interest will it be.

Probably not that much, said couple owns most of a £120k flat, plus ££££££ early inheritance from older parents doing a bit of estate planning. I'd guess under £200k mortgage, not too bad over 25-30 years.

We're friends with a couple who earn about the same as us and have just bought a 300k house. And they let slip the other day that their mortgage is tiny! Bank of mum and dad is very well off in their case:eek:
In their favour, they live very frugally, probably on a similar level with us. House isn't massive but is in a nice rural area and prices can be eye-watering not so far from here...

    Bought our house 2012 :) Married 2015 :D Started renovating 2015
Renovation fund... what renovation fund? Emergency fund 40% Future fund... ongoing...

I'm trying not to be a big entitlementpants. Just about the only area of my life where I'm competitive is financial stability. It's tied up deep down in my psyche with the need to prove myself as a good provider. Hence feeling glum when comparing myself to others.

I know that's not something you should do and normally I avoid it, honest ;)

Hi ed! You're providing wonderfully, of course you are. And you don't sound like a complainypants at all - I've met a lot of prospective dads over the last few years on the web, weirdly enough, and I recognise what you're going through, absolutely!

And anyway, mortgages and housing are completely weird at the moment, everything's really barmy, especially down here in the south of England, but I'm sure there's a similar effect round where you are, for some of the same reasons. You're doing great, just enjoy these months, each month as it comes, as much as you can. Its a precious time.

We're going through the exact same thing - it's strange. Maybe it's a parents-to-be stage? I keep looking around our house thinking there's so much that needs doing to make it better. I also worry that we don't have enough room, which is ridiculous! How much space can one small person need? ;)

Rugrats don't need much space and the more space you have the further you have to go to chase them.
  • Sorry for being blunt but is it not better to live in a smaller place and still have your parents and soon to be grandparents?

You misunderstand, they're still alive, just handing over assets in advance of the big party in the sky ;)
