No problem Watty, we've had to go back to the drawing board anyway, our car boot isn't very big so our chosen travel system won't work

I honestly think trying to find a pram is more stressful than the thought of parenthood! :rotfl:
  • I remember that dilemma! My DH was insistent on keeping the Golf Gti and my mum was equally insistent on buying us a silver cross pram(1st grandchild!). We did achieve both but it was a modern(then) fold down pram that just fitted in the GTi boot and no more. The dog was then relegated to the back seat with me as the rear facing car seat had to go in the front at that point. Needless to say a few months in and the GTi was traded in for a Volvo estate!:rotfl::rotfl: poor hubby as it was bought by someone who lived not far from us and he would often see it out and about.

I hope everyone is keeping well?

No particular MSE news, but we had a scan for Baby E this week and she is growing well and is expected 15 weeks from today :A

Feeling somewhat shocked after baby shopping kicked into gear this afternoon. Just ordered the pram, Isofix base, bed and mattress and we're now £750 down

It transpired that due to the peculiarities of our car boot, there were literally two types of pram that we could find that will fit in it. We did the research and chose the one that looked safest and most comfortable for the baby. Still, I was in a pants mood after 90 minutes of discussing two prams :rotfl:

We are very lucky in that the majority of these items will be covered by parents, but there is still a bit to go. Next week's shopping will be fabric nappies and possibly nursery furniture. After that, we're all done bar some more clothes and essentials (sudocream, plastic bath, steriliser etc.)

Everything is in 0% stooze land, but the amount spent still feels surreal.

Also, incredibly happy to hear today that my little sister is also expecting a baby! Spare a thought for my poor parents, who will go from 2 to 5 grandchildren in the space of a quarter.

Other than that? Keeping busy and feeling like a zombie after one of my most demanding weeks of work since starting my job over 3 years ago, I can hardly believe that it's Monday tomorrow :(

Glad to hear everything is going well. :)

As for cars changing when a baby comes along, that wasn't the case for us as I had a Land Rover anyway so my wife and I could still have some sports and classic cars between us. My wife did have a change of daily car not long after having our son and whilst it does have more doors it's also a lot more powerful... so much for becoming "sensible". People are a lot more safety conscious these days, none of the cars my parents had when I was small even had seatbelts and I'm not that old.

  • It is great fun preparing for a baby, however at the risk of sounding like Scrooge, nursery furniture is a real waste of money. Any furniture is fine, it doesn't need to be small as you don't want anyone under five having access to the contents of cupboards. Then they are too old for it and you have to sell it for next to nothing.

Very glad that baby e is doing well.

Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

Agreed, that's why we're aiming to buy ours second hand, won't be paying more than 40% of cost new.

Great news on the happy scan results.x
  • Hi Mr E, lovely to hear about the purchases. 9 months seems such a long time at the beginning but boy does it fly by.

It's a really exciting chapter for you both. Mr T was the same as you about buying a pram buggy thing - plus I hauled him along to an NCT meeting to help him feel more involved. Not a good idea for him but fortunately he didn't deck anyone :rotfl:

Good luck with your purchases and second hand wins every time, apart from cot mattress.

I'm missing news of your food though so can you get posting some meal ideas. I've not being feeling brilliant recently and my cooking mojo has vanished. Mr T is currently making pizza dough ready for an unusual Sunday night meal of pizza, salad and bits and bobs from the fridge.

    Best wishes, Tilly x x

  • 'Nursery' furniture has a lot more longevity these days if chosen carefully. When having DD (now 16!) we bought a changing station from Ike@ for not a huge amount of money. It was basically a chest of drawers with a fold out top and extra shelves could be bought for the top. 3 kids later and it has stood the test of time. It now stands in the spare room as a chest of drawers with shelves above and stores books, spare bedding and some bits and pieces my parents leave for their frequent visits. At this rate it may even become a family heirloom:rotfl: .Though hopefully not anytime soon given DD is only16:eek::eek:

Good to hear everything is on track Ed

Also feeling a bit like that Tilly. Mrs E has been wanting more meat due to her wonderful condition, but it's killing off my imagination. In the olden days, we tended not to have meat more than a couple of times a week. It's more like 50% of the time now. Cooking without meat requires more effort. With meat, it's pretty much a case of 'cook meat, add veg, end'. :(
