Aww I've just found this thread - thanks for the story and all the updates!
Keep the pics comin'!
I got my Morris (ginger and white) a year ago and it brought back so many memories! Will share some and let you know what you're in for
We kept Morris in a bedroom for the first few days as we already had Lottie (black cat). As soon as he realised there was another cat in the house, he was desperate to get out. He'd quite literally put his paws round the door and tug and tug it whenever I tried entering/exiting (like a cartoon!).
Lottie's not hugely fussed about other cats. I kept saying she must be lonely after I had to have my beloved Jerry PTS earlier that year, but, tbh, Morris was probably mainly for me.
My OH is allergic too. I bought the house in April last year and OH moved in with me straight away. He hated cats. Just saw them as very furry rats. Said they'd definitely not be allowed (EVER!) in bedrooms. A year later, we usually sleep in 2 bedrooms (I can't sleep with any noise, and he has windows open, curtains open, radio on...) so Lottie sleeps in with me all night on the bed (on an old cardigan and my dressing gown) and Morris gets up on the other bed with my BF when it just starts getting light and they cuddle (and share a pillow) for a couple of hours. He adores them both (although Morris is more his now and Lottie's very much a mummy's girl).
OH lies on the floor each night watching TV with a dressing gown or blanket over him and Morris curls up next to him for hours, usually on his back with his legs wide apart so the OH can stroke his tummy for hours. He dribbles with happiness (the cat, not OH).
Morris is obsessed with other cats and is desperate to play with some. There's a blue/grey one that comes in to play now and again, and two others who just sneak in to nick their food, and he tries so hard to get them to stay but they don't want to know. He's had a few scraps - scratches on his face and body, and an abscess where we think he was bitten resulting in a trip to the vet's, but he just won't learn/give up. He usually goes three gardens down along the fences and through the trees/bushes and sits on a neighbour's shed roof (and probably stares at cats as there are a few down there).
I do keep showing the OH sad cats on the CP site and said we should get one that loves cats so Morris could have a mate, but the OH says no to 3Lottie just hides from him and runs (mainly cos he chases her at every opportunity so now she barely comes out unless I'm in the room). I do agree with the OH that maybe getting another won't be fair on Lottie, but part of me thinks if Morris had a mate, they could lie together and groom each other and he'd leave her alone more. Hmmm.
Mine do go in and out all day and night (although they mainly sleep). Both are around 7 give or take a year. I always get them in before I go to bed. If they don't come in first shout, they'll be in second in say half hour. Morris is usually brilliant at coming when he's called. Like a dog he is! Lottie doesn't usually bat a girlie eyelash.
Despite Morris being a massive trusting softy, he is still petrified of certain things. If you stroke him without him seeing your hand first, he'll jump out of his skin! Even if he's lying next to me, if I stroke his back, he jumps a mile! Maybe he was abused, or maybe it's cos he had eye problems which may have made them a bit tunnel vision. They're both petrified of the ironing board, hoover, front door, people... actually most things. Am sure each one's fear rubs off on the other. And they're very suspicious.
Anyway, I'm thread-hogging now! It's just so lovely hearing all the cat stories
Thanks!

Well it's been an awfully long time! Which just means nothing of note is happening - no news is good news - BUT tonight the little git stole a raw pork chop that I was resting and ate half before I noticed! I'm now panicking that he'll get food poisoning!!!! :-(0

No, he wont get food poisoning...cats can handle raw meat just fine! maybe he is trying to give you a hint about his diet and would like some raw meals along the way?0

Do you think..? Do most people supplement their cats' meals with a bit of raw meat every now and then? I'm up for trying new things if anyone has any recommendations!0 -
I used to give mine little bits of whatever I was cooking - chicken, prawns, mince.
The two I have now don't beg for food like my old ones did though - it's a novelty being able to open the fridge without getting a racket!0 -

You can buy raw cat food from https://www.nutriment.co or https://www.naturalinstinct.co.uk which is a 'complete' mix of meat, offal and bone....or you can opt to feed scraps or the odd meal of whatever meat you have in the household.
You can even feed raw chicken wings which would be particularly good for dental benefit.0 -
How weird is that, I was thinking only in the week that we hadn't heard much about Derek recently.
Sadly we lost our Tinka, hit by a car when we were on holiday. Beaten ourselves up about it but know that won't bring him back, so we're bringing home a new rescue cat on Saturday we're going to call Pixie, so we've got all the new-cat stresses to come again.Make £2025 in 2025
