Madame here has loads of places to sleep, some of them would astound you. Derek will find places to try out and hide, feel safe there and zonk out, so don't worry, it is all about being a cat !.
She sleeps on my bed, on our old dogs bed, on a pillow by the window of my room, in a cardboard box which is lying at a 45 deg angle, on top of OH wardrobe, she got inside my bed one night, she pulled the draw out. She has slept in the tumble dryer with the door open, behind the curtains in the lounge, on the sofas, behind the sofas, under the sofas. On her radiator hammock, my office chair, the bath, on the toilet lid. She has a particular liking for on top of OH's crafting desk, have had to move scalpels, blades etc out the way, otherwise she just pushes them away. On a sunny day, she lies in the garden on the compost heap.
The only place she hasn't slept in , is her cat bed which cost £30 ! lol
I wouldn't worry Martin, it gives opportunity to get great pictures ! lol0 -

Re the beds, sounds about your average cat! Mine have almost taken over the whole house as sleeping places, but they do let me know I have to move if they want my seat. I am just the chief tin opener and litter tray changer with occasional use as a place to sleep!Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
My 2 like their beds, I have really deep windowsills and have an igloo and a doughnut bed on the sill in my bedroom. They both use them everyday, they do sleep elsewhere too but their beds get a lot of use!
I've currently got boy cat on the back of the sofa beside me.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Fab new pictures of sofa-king Derek. Thanks for the updates.
Keep scrunching up your eyes when he looks at you - he'll start doing it back eventually.
If you want more purring, try tickling his cheeks and behind his ears. However, keep away from his tummy at this point when you're stroking him (that will come later - in Arthur's case about a year later!).Whoops there goes another year, there goes another pint of :beer:0 -

I think we may have the same cat - one of ours has slept in the dishwasher, in the cutlery drawer, along the top of doors, in the sink, along the upstairs bannister, on top of kitchen cabinets, in my workbag, across the garden arch. She doesn't walk on the floor if she can help it - she'd rather scramble along shelves and people's heads to get to the next room. At the moment she loves her Mum very much so she's IN our bed under the duvet with her head on my pillow, and will appear shortly to demand I go to bed."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000 -
Our family cat harry loved his bed. Our first cat Jessie we bought her a bed , took her months to use it. Think she ended up spending less than 30 mins in it.
So we never bothered getting one for Salem.
He doesn't sleep in quite so many adventurous places as some peoples catsbut he loves his blanket , the sofa , kitchen/living room windows , random spots in the hallway , the new rug we got today he loves , computer chair , the ottoman , on the bed , under the bed , on top of the towels in the cupboard a few times , on top of the bookshelf. That's about it

my Barnes loves to sleep on windowsills, that way he can keep an eye on 'outside' as well as 'inside'. he also likes to sleep on a pile of three cushions on the settee alongside OH, but that is during evening tv. he doesn't bother otherwise. another fave sleeping place is on the back of the settee, but that's only because its handy for 'whupping me upside the head' when he wants my attention. (he has very big paws and can give quite a wallop!)apart from that he actually prefers to sleep at night curled up on the pillow above my head but touching it. I hate it and he does mostly respect that. other nights he thinks 'sod it, I am worried her head is getting cold and I really must keep her brain warm'. but, as he cant resist pulling my ponytail band off, it wakes me up and he gets shifted!0

Well tonight I took the step of moving his litter tray and food bowls from the lounge into the kitchen which I hope will be their permanent home. No, they're not near each other, wouldn't make my Derek do that!
Question: will this confuse him or will he find the litter tray? It's not exactly hidden..?0 -
I'd be very surprised if he doesn't find it Martin, cat's noses are much more sensitive than ours.
Just in case, are you able to gently pick him up yet? If so, take him through to the kitchen and show him.
Of course, it's more fun if you just put a little line of a few treats through to the kitchen.......0 -
Boy was I !!!!ed off this morning. So his tray and food are now in the kitchen. What does OH do when he gets home from his shift at 3am?? Comes to bed and closes the kitchen door!! Result?? Poor Derek had to go in the potted plant in the lounge; earth everywhere, plant destroyed. I felt terrible for Derek! OH won't be doing that again! :-(0
