Yay, go Derek! Give it a day or two and he'll rule the roost. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

Those pictures are so adorable.
My fave is the one where he is yawning
So happy he came out and is settling in.

Now to spoil him totally. Go to pets at Home or Sainsbury's and get him either Encore tins of cat food( Sainsbury's) or Applaws tins of out Pets at Home.
Only as a treat, but they are pure chicken or Fish. Madame Tibsey is addicted to the Tuna and prawn one, but also likes the Chicken and Pumpkin one.
If he goes into hiding, just the smell off it, will bring him out ! Are about 99p a tin. Even try feeding a bit of it, by hand, to get used to you.0 -
Aaaawwww love the yawning pic.
It looks as if he is settling in all right, cats take differing times to feel at home (in my experience between 30 seconds and 6 weeks!)
Sounds as if you are doing ok with the little fella, soon you will have that magical moment when he runs to greet you tail up, then he has got you right under the paw.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
So Derek was miaowing in the night, the sound from downstairs woke me at 3:50am, not constantly but in little bursts... Thought he may be hungry as he didn't eat at all when he first arrived but no, he didn't eat what we put out for him..
Why might he have been vocalising at that time? I found it very distressing not knowing what he wanted, when I came down he went straight back to his hidey hole... :-/0 -
He was probably just checking if you were still there.
Maybe wanted out?
Just make sure he always has fresh water and a clean toilet.
I also always make sure ours have access to dry food.0 -

Thanks. Yes he always has dried food, but as far as I can tell he's not touched a bite of it since he got home!0 -

Cats are prone to 'lone cat in a hostile universe' yodelling outbursts at ungodly hours. Doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong or he's unhappy or lacking something - he probably doesn't know why he's doing it himself. One of our cats yells in her sleep. Yours has access to food, water, toilet, and a whole new world to explore - you're doing everything right."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000
