Write to the DVLA. I can't be certain that this will take care of it, but believe that they are supposed to furnish an owner's details when the person asking has a reasonable reason for them.
Do bear in mind, though, that unless the new owner has sent the forms in already, they'll not have anything to go on.
Assuming that your transaction was normal (i.e. right price, a car you owned, sold via a normal website, to a genuine buyer), I think it very unlikely that the buyer is intending to have you over. They'll possibly have no idea yet that anything is wrong.0 -
Am I missing something here ?
The OP has a receipt that they were given by lloyds which shows the correct amount of cheques and the correct amount. BUT, the credit to their account is £10k short ?
Lloyds are saying they won't take this any further ? To be honest I don't believe this. Have I misunderstood ?0 -
Ownership doesn't transfer until you fill out the V5 with the new owners details, signed by both parties and then sent to DVLA. It seems like the seller hasn't done this, so chances are will still be the rightful owner.
Also note that I said "are/were", just in case the new owner has forged the sellers signature.
The V5 does not show details of the owner of the car.
It shows the registered keeper.
These are two different things.

Two weeks ago I paid in serval large sum cheques into the bank over the counter to the cashier.
I was told that because they were so large they need to be triple checked. The cashier added them up three times and completed the paying in slip. She then took all the cheques plus paperwork to have them checked by two others.
I waited at the counter for 15 or so mins.
The cashier came out behind me..and called me into a room. I was told to take a seat and then questioned about the cheques, where they came from etc....I was then told that I should think about which account they should be deposited in and told of the different accounts the bank offered and what they all did...
I wasn't interested in any of this and only concerned about when the cheques would be in my account.
I spoke with a senior care person at the branch who told me that due to the bank holidays (Easter) etc. they would be a week, she then went around to the cashiers side and stamped my deposit receipt to confirm they had received the cheques, and the total they had received.
I then left.
A few days later I checked my account online and noticed that the cheques had been deposited but funds not available, this is what I would have expected...... BUT... the amount deposited was £10,000 less than I paid in.
I called their customer services and was told that due to the holidays and the fact that they were large amounts, there were other checks being done on the cheque and it would show in my account soon.
I waited until the day they were supposed to clear to check the account again... (1week after they were deposited.)
I called customer services again to double check where and what was happening...again I was told that as long as I had my receipt there wasn't a problem.
I explained that the missing cheque was for my car and the new buyer was coming to collect it. Twice on separate calls I was told the there wasn't a problem with the money and it was just goin through extra checks.
The buyer collected my car on Thursday.
Still unsure I called again just to double check. This time I was told they had no pending cheques in the system.. After being passed around to a few different people I was then advised to log a formal complaint. I did this and was assigned a senior complaints handler. They then took over the investigation and a complaint was investigated. I called every day twice a day till today.
The outcome I was told today was that after a full audit of the branch no money or cheques were out. All the monies added up.
The cashier and other staff were interviewed and found that it was just an error on part of the cashier who entered the incorrect amount.
I am so livid I have been shaking all day, I don't know what to do.
The bank has said that this is their final answer and that I should take it to the ombudsman.
I asked the person on the phone what they would do, I was told that I should contact the dvla and the police and report the car stolen.. I explained that it wasn't stolen, it was paid for, THEY LOST the cheque. I was then told to speak to citizens advice..
I feel my next move is to report this to the police as a crime, the bank have stolen my money.
Any suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated and thank you for taking the time to read this.
What a nightmare
No really, I think you should perhaps not eat so much cheese so late at night.0 -

More or less exactly what I was going to say. Ownership of a vehicle has nothing much to with the DVLA.0 -

Which part are you confused about, lloyds not taking it further or the receipt I have from lloyds?0 -

I suspect it means that DVLA record what is told to them. Only courts act as arbiters of ownership.0

I don't know if this is 'real' or not but my first question would be;
IS it a cheque or is it a BANK draft..
If the bank lose a 'cheque'... yes you can complain but they won't refund the money and just let your buyer keep the 10k.... no you will have to find the buyer... (surely you have his number in your phone??)People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -

I don't know how to tell the difference, the cheque was printed, but whether that means anything I don't know.0
