I suspect it means that DVLA record what is told to them. Only courts act as arbiters of ownership.

Does this mean I technically still own the vehicle?

    When are they scanned?
How can I find out if they have this?
If they have done a full audit in the branch, surely this would have been discovered?

Every time i pay cheques in they run through a machine which reads the code at the bottom of the cheques it also must read the amount wriiten on them because sometimes we have made an error totalling up on paying in slip and it totals it up

Also when ever we pay cheques in the total paid shows on the bank account straight away ( this will be reflected in the cleared funds box )So I am not sure how you didnt pick this up straight away

    who do you bank with?

That'll be fun when he produces the advertisement, the cheque stub, and the V5 log book signed by both the seller and the buyer. The seller is more like to be done for fraud.

the buyer could always get a copy of the cheque from the bank, or show a bank statement proving it had left their account

The cashier added up the cheques by hand three times, and then wrote out the receipt, this was checked by three different people and then stamped. As soon as I noticed the amount actually credited to my account was different I called customer services.

The dvla are not answering and the citizens advice are too busy at the moment. I'll try both later.
In the mean time I will see if I can contact O2 to get the call log of incoming calls and check back to see if I can contact the buyer.
Thank you for all your help so far.
I feel sick to my stomach.

    Stretching the story somewhat.

Did you lose/sell your phone with the call logs in the last 9 days too, along with the phone no, name, address, a 10k cheque (interesting number), a v5C, mot certificates, service history, confidence in the ability of at least half a dozen bank staff, and a car.

Which part are you confused about, lloyds not taking it further or the receipt I have from lloyds?

I'm confused why lloyds won't take it further. They appear to have lost the cheque, if you have a receipt showing you paid it in, they have to look into it.

I wouldn't have accepted what Lloyds have said. You have the receipts that indicate the amounts and the number of cheques. Following the in branch investigation, i would want physical proof that it was the cashier's mistake. and the best way for lloyds to do so would to produce the cheques u gave them, each clearly showing the amounts when added up to prove the total was incorrect on ur receipt. Id personally would have made it the branch manager's problem and wouldn't let them go home until the issue was sorted.

They did look into it and have done a full audit of the branch and interviewed the staff

The senior branch manager has been investigated, they have all said that there was a mistake and the cashier wrote the wrong amount.
