    I guess it depends what you put in them..I use mine for cereals, larger storage jars, pasta, jams, sauces etc.... You are right that they make rubbish spice racks!

    Bottom = tins.
    Next up = jams, pickles, peanut butter
    Next up = rice, pasta
    Next up = spices, stock cubes
    Top = oils, vinegars, bottles

    Unless you label the tops of your jars

    That is really shoddy planning or fitting or both! All it takes is a 25mm filler or a proper corner post to overcome that one,,,too late now though!

    Well the planner did originally want to put a draw unit under the sink, so I should have heard the alarm bells ringing

    I would, but it doesn't solve the "having to pull everything out to get one stock cube" thing.

    Opening/closing mine isn't any more difficult than a cupboard. I wonder if that varies between manufacturers? Mine was new with the house, but I'm moving soon and planning a new kitchen in the new house.

    Actually, I keep the stock cubes in another cupboard. It pull out has tins/jars/oils/sauces/condiments etc. I would like the spices/herbs to be more accessible. Some have the tops labeled but not many

    Yes, ours came with the house. It's a good quality kitchen. It's just a crappy use of space!

    Love the larder, so much better than just cupboards. In one corner unit we have a rotating unit, so it doesn't pull out but you can use all the space and still access things. Think we had to have this as the opening wasn't big enough for putt out shelves. We have those too in another corner though. :)

    Someone else mentioned built in microwave. We have one and it great, saves a lot of worktop space. Was an ebay bargain as it has a tiny mark on the front! :D

    thank you everyone for your helpful comments, there seem to be a few of us going through this trauma at the moment!

    After popping into John Lewis Oxford Street on Sunday I think we have decided on Maia worktops as we would need a 4.8m straight and it can be joined without showing too much if at all and they come in a thinner depth which is necessary as our window sills are lower than standard. We keep changing our minds on appliances but think that the steam oven is out now as the NEFF oven we think we will go for has a steam accessory we could buy and as I explained to DH as long as we get a decent cooker hood steam in the kitchen shouldn't be a problem. We have Howdens coming out in a couple of weekends time to give us a design let's hope this goes better than the independent company that came out in July last year and gave us a design where he clearly hadn't listened to a thing we had said.
