I made 1 mistake in my kitchen and that was my choice of extractor hood which has a square base. My kitchen has a lowish ceiling and I am above average height (1.70 M). As I stand at the hob, the extractor gets in the way. Should have chosen one which curves up at the sides.

We like the designs that are angled like a triangle against a wall so that you don't feel claustrophobic, we currently have a integrated one with cupboards either side and when you are cooking on the hob it is like being in a dark cocoon!

Pan drawers for pans and one for plates, corner storage so there's no wasted space and the best of all is the larder unit. :)

We also have a couple of display cabinets which I was unsure about as it's not the best use of space, but with some lights in there they look great! :)

    In a small kitchen:

Great - induction hob (works great, and provides additional work surface when not in use). pyrotic oven (cleans itself). under cupboard fluorescent lighting - great even light for the work top - I'm sure LED is good enough now.

Regret - slimline dishwasher (cost the same as a full size, and only saved 10 cm of space - a further 10 cm is wasted in gaps either side of the dishwasher). worktop with patterned grooves in it, gathers the muck and harder to clean.

My future wishes (intend to extend): bigger dishwasher, eye level oven - either two ovens or an oven with a half size. More narrow drawers, its easy to lose stuff in the big drawers.

Ooh, I'd never have a slimline dishwasher! I'd be running it 4 times a day!

I'm actually considering having 2 dishwashers......

Slimline was fine for me and I only run that every 2nd day. There are rare occasions when I have a large item (like a casserole dish) which won't fit in but most of the time a slimline is no problem.

My parents went from full size to slimline - hate it.

My brother in law fitted a slimline and hates it.

My sister has a slimline, which works for her.

    I won't be going slimline.

There's only 2 of us but I have a full size dishwasher and only run it every 3 or 4 days. Almost went for a slimline, so glad I didn't.

You'll probably have to buy more crockery and cutlery but it will work out cheaper than running a slimline dishwasher more often.
