regrets or greats with a new kitchen

Hi
We moved into our house about 7 years ago and have been renovating it, for the last 2 years we keep umming and aahing over the kitchen, it currently has a hand built oak kitchen which is all working but not necessarily doing what we want.
Kitchens can be expensive and we only really want to do it once - with the view to painting it or changing doors in the future.
So what things are you pleased you put in? or
Wasted money on and regretted?
ie steam oven, hot taps, granite or those touches that we may not think of
thank you

We fitted our kitchen recently, things we love are our wine coolers (2 and one is dual zone) and our very large sink and I love my neff induction hob
Also our black mirror fleck quartz worktop is great !0 -
I absolutely love my swing out fittings for the corner base cabinets. They make it so much easier to utilise the space. in the corners.0
-
Our biggest improvement was the pan drawers. No more toppling piles of saucepans and lids in a cupboard, all neatly confined and easily accessible in the drawers.0

I love my induction hob, swing out corner shelves, double oven. I got a dishwasher for the first time too last year - fabulous.
I'm also pleased that I didn't have black worktops - I know they are popular, but I'm glad mine are different (dark chocolate with sparkly bits in)0 -
Induction hob, pan drawers and floor to ceiling cupboards with sliding doors are my favourite things. I didn't want wall cupboards above the units so the extra storage was invaluable.0

Pleased with: deep pan drawers, built in 12 bottle wine rack, wide black glass hob with wok burner at side (not middle).
Disappointed with: Franke black composite sink, shows water marks, wish I'd had stainless steel.0 -
Reading this with great interest as I am just planning my new kitchen.
Just out of interest would you go for a full height 30cm larder cupboard with/without pull out wire baskets or have the extra 30 cm of work surface?
Slab front, handless or shaker style doors?0 -
Full height larder cupboard, big draws replacing cupboards and no wall units.
All were brilliant in the new kitchen ( in our old house).
Need to start again from scratch in the new place!0 -
Thank you for your comments so far, there is no gas where we live and as my husband is Chinese a hob that gets hot enough is really necessary (may encourage him back to cooking!) so induction was what we were thinking with boost and a dual zone.
I have rheumatoid arthritis so drawers instead of cupboards where possible looks good too, however some drawers don't seem that big front to back. The original kitchen has been extended so we have 2 arch windows one side/one end and another arch one other end so not a huge amount of light so we were also thinking if we could get away without wall cabinets, may be a shelf or two.
It is really a galley kitchen at the moment but with about 2 metres floor space between cupboards on opposite sides. What I do love is on one side about 30 cms deep but floor to ceiling are purpose built cupboards, the first 2 doors about 5ft tall open to reveal shelving with door shelves too that is my larder cupboard, I can see at a glance what gaps I have and therefore what I need to buy. The next set have open shelving inside where all my crockery goes. We think we will paint this unit, maybe OH can adapt doors as to replace it will have to be made to measure.
I love this version of a larder cupboard, I have heard that the pull out ones can be heavy the trouble is most showrooms don't put in as much as we shove in them at home!
I am rubbish at washing up so a dishwasher is a must! we might go back to a single sink as I find the 1/2 section is a waste, hard to clean and would rather have work top. Interested in your comments about a black sink, we have incredibly hard water so stainless steel is just as bad, we currently have a white ceramic sink and think we will go for that again, despite us drinking black coffee the stains come out quite easily.
Any views on steam combi ovens with a normal oven too?
How good is the quartz at cleaning? We have the black flecked corian in our ensuite so would probably go for a lighter one but however careful I am I spill things all the time. Yesterday draining the pasta over the sink but water still went everywhere and husband leaves black coffee spoons on worktop all the time!0 -
