Voting in NI

I'm part of the silent majority.
It doesn't matter who runs this place, they are all sharks in suits.
I would get rid of half of them and their poxy Gov departments, they're only keeping civil servants in jobs, over burdening the common man with legislation, regulation and taxes.
Personally I find the election posters colours offensive and an eyesore.
I even saw an Alliance party poster with Anna Lo's face shown on a yellow background, bit racist I thought?
Any politician who calls at my door gets dogs abuse! they deserve it0 -
You actually have politicians calling at your door,I thought they all had photophobia and had to hire people to go out in daylight. Sill0

There are a fair number of politicians here, from various parties who are capable, put in a lot of time and do try to represent their entire constituency fairly and to the best of their ability. Unfortunately there are also a number of utter idiots who follow their own bigoted and narrow agenda. Guess which group gets the most press coverage!
Voting is a right hard earned by many in times past. Yes everyone has a right not to vote, but to say that those standing are all useless is incorrect and pure arrogance. There is choice and if I don't particularly like the most prominent there is always the independents.
I always vote. No one I have ever voted for has ever been elected, but the way I look at it is my vote encourages people who have views similar to my own to stand in future elections and perhaps some day, some may be successful.

The single transferable vote is a great system, as it means you can safely vote for someone who you think has little chance of winning in the knowledge that if they are eliminated the vote transfers IN FULL to your second preference, and so on until it resides with someone who is elected.
So the lesson here is always give your first preference to the person who you think represents your views most closely, (even if an outsider) same applies to your second preference, and so on, and keep going until you simply can't bear to vote any more.
You don't have to vote (1) for someone you dislike simply to keep out another you detest. Vote first for people you like, and then the strategic as a last option. It will work, and if enough people voted this way we could have a very different Assembly. Go on be devils and give all those politicians who think they are in safe seats a very unsettling time during the count. NI politics would benefit from a few dozen Portillo moments. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVvWE6V9ulE (Portillo went up considerably in my esteem by his dignified handling of a very difficult moment.)[STRIKE]Less is more.[/STRIKE] No less is Less.0 -

I seen these posters and they look terrible, are they really submitted by the Alliance party or are they mock posters put up by rivals?0 -

We have the politicians that we collectively deserve.
So why have there been no new parties formed that would actually deliver on the issues that are important to the majority?0 -
Sorry but I disagree. I was under the impression that the majority of the population was against sectarianism, was anti terrorism and wanted an improved society for future generations. The candidates we have for councils and the Assembly are mainly the same useless political parties we have had for years.
So why have there been no new parties formed that would actually deliver on the issues that are important to the majority?
NI21 claim to do this and they are a newly formed party.
Alliance also claim to be non sectarian.0
