I don't grow my own fruit (no garden) but can buy some things in bulk very cheaply from a local street market. I'd love to make jam, and the Tefal gadget is barely any more expensive than buying individual items like a preserving pan, thermometer and so on.

I recently visited the Lakeland store and saw these knives. I got a pink one and have to saw it really is a nice little knife. It's very sharp and is as good as my very old and faithful Sabatier veg knife.

I like your justification (except I've already got those things!)My maslin pan (from Lakeland, obviously!) was a present to myself two years ago as I'd already been making preserves for 4 years and was getting fed up of being limited to making small quantities in saucepans. I suppose I could always ebay it though.

Hi
I have only recently started buying from Lakeland, and I have loved almost all of their products - the best ones though, seem to be those that other MSE members have recommended.
What is your Lakeland must have?
Not sure mine counts as a must have, but I love their chocolate moulds. We made loads of homemade chocolates for Christmas this year and everyone loved them. The moulds were really good quality and easy to turn out.

I'll have to look at the chocolate moulds. My friend and I are going on a chocolate making course tomorrow (very excited), so I will be looking for some moulds if I get on well.
Back to you question, the Lakeland butter knives are brilliant. Something very basic, but I couldn't be without mine.0 -
Klippits ! I'm off to check the butter knives - been looking for one for ages..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Thanks Mich. The moulds are fantastic - I initially bought one and ended up buying all four designs. You can mould chocolate using shaped silicone ice cube trays, but it is not nearly as easy to get them out. I have the diamond shaped ones from Lakeland and it's quite hard getting them out without putting finger marks on the chocolate :eek:0

Do you think Lakeland are doing well out of the credit crunch? They have expanded so much in recent years I do hope they don't end up having to close shops - we've only just got one.
I think they probably have benefited from people having to cut costs. Their latest catalogue seems geared to comfort food and cooking from scratch and I think I saw somewhere that their sales of baking equipment have shot up since the credit crunch. When I was in there recently they seemed to have much less space devoted to crafting and more on cake decorating. It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
