I'm thinking about buying some of these preloaded sims from Currys:

(Sorry, it won't let me post links as I'm a new user, replace the , with . and ' with a space) But before I do I've got a couple of questions about them.
1. Is there a time limit on when I can activate them? I'm thinking about buying 20 which will last me a couple of years but I don't want to be stock piling them if after the first year I'm no longer able to activate and use the remaining sims.
2. Will I be able to use the sims in my laptop? I seen it mentioned that they're for tablets, but will they also work in a laptop with an internal WWAN card?0 -

I don't know what Three do, but a while back I had two SIMs from T-Mobile that gathered dust without ever being unsealed (had to buy the SIMs together with some cheap phones). I couldn't use them once I retrieved them from the archaeological dig a year or so later, but I spoke to customer services and they sent me a new SIM and credited me with the value of those two other SIMs.
The SIMs didn't say anything like "use before date X", so the way I interpret the situation is that by not activating the SIMs I never agreed to that point that says I forfeit the credit if I don't use them for 6 months, but they didn't even argue about it, so I never put this interpretation to the test.0 -

Firstly Curry's system has only been able to let you buy 2 but I managed to get 4 by buying 2 for home delivery and 2 on pay and collect. When I looked last night (and just) neither of these options were available as post-Samba demise they have probably now sold out. I suspect when they restock they wont be on offer at £2.99 but back up to £4.99.
Secondly they can be used IN tablets that have a Sim 3G socket but your laptop will need either a Wi-Fi Dongle or a Mi-Fi wireless device both of which are widely available for less than £30. Unless they are branded by Three you will have to get them unlocked (99p off a reputable Flea-bayer). That wouldnt be a bad idea anyway because then you could use any networks sim in them.If the ball had gone in the net it would have been a goal.If my Auntie had been a man she'd have been my Uncle.0 -
Hi Karr999, I'm still fannying about unsure if I should get my mifi unlocked first and try and get the £2.99 SIM first. It so happens we're walking by Curry's today, so may pop in to see if a) they have any and b), if they can be bought and held over till needed.
Some things I rush into other times I don't, as with Ovivo & Samba then miss out. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Just as well Islandman you didnt rush in with Samba... You missed out on nothing!!
Personally I would get your Mi-Fi unlocked and then you can use whatever network you choose.I doubt however you will find these sims in store.
Check your local stock buy adding this into your basket..

Listen to this little story Karr999 (and anyone else that hasn't fallen asleep lol).
Entered Curry's. said "I am interested in buying one of your £2.99 SIM for data use in my mifi". They said " we have lots of data only SIM, no need to spend £2.99, when we have them at 99p".
That really threw me.
I explained that whatever the others did, the one I was interested in gave a set data allowance which would when activated, last till used or in 30 days time, whichever came first. From then on, it would be a PAYG non expiry thing as it was for occasional use.
A second assistant descended on me and between them they ushered me to one side and started implying they could and would change my phone plan and tariff to allow tethering, something I have never or wouldn't do.
One can look at this in two ways, either they were trying to ensure I had the benefit of their knowledge or they were trying to score more business by getting me to sign up to something I had not implied or said I wanted.
I left the store saying I had been given plenty to think about.

The profit on the £2.99 disposable SIM is wafer thin and does not justify a sales assistant walking across the showroom floor.
The 99p SIMs are all about rolling you into a long term tablet or MiFi data contract. Otherwise they were wondering if they could sell you a phone contract.
For some reason Currys accepted my order for home delivery of 2x standard and 2x nano SIMs of the £2.99 variety.
Some big network will break ranks soon and start to offer a sensible occasional user tablet/MiFi SIM deal - I expect & hope!0 -
I am going to do this:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/t-mobile-data-sim-1gb-per-month-for-3-33-per-month-great-samba-mobile-replacement-1895140
£2.66 per month for 1GB0 -
Is your plan to use it for a tablet, phone or a MiFi?
T-Mobile may block usage of data on anything other than a mobile phone.0 -
I plan to use it in a tablet.0
