I'm new on this board and new HPC threads are interesting to me...diff opinions etc...people may come here the 1st time as their house isn't selling and it's helpful to them to get differing points of view from all diff types of people (more info for them instead of just what they have read in the Daily Mail /Hate or what their EA has told them.)
Scrolling down, it is plain to see that one can post a query on anything relevant to the board title.
Opinions on prices are also relevant to some queries.

Really long threads are off putting as they evolve as they lengthen and useful bits of info are lost as it is painful to wade through vast no's of posts.

I do think a sub board is a good idea. However things do get murky at some point because "House buying and selling" is so intertwined with the state of the market and direction of price fluctuations.
Actually, I would probably have a renting board, a house price/ state of the market board, a selling board and a buying board. That's a lot of boards though. I am more inclined to just sift through the topics on one board. To each their own.

IMHO...I thought there would be a crash (back in 2004) similar to 1989 - 1993 as we tried to sell to re-locate and it was all doom and gloom.
However, even with the current factors around, things are so different now on so many levels...eg;Eastern European workers needing places to rent.

Also, horrid to write but true...the old traditional "classes" structure has changed massively. oh, I deleted it as it's too difficult to write down nicely...but, once we would have been classed Middle Class....now we are the new working class. Working ever harder just to provide a reasonable living with no spare for savings etc.
Things will go quiet for a few months but the govt can't afford a "crash"...so will engineer all sorts of schemes to prop everything up...all the creative key worker housing initiatives, the new CGT, plus the Bof E propping up lenders who made errors.

The most likely scenario (apart from overpriced 2 bed 2 bath new builds) is prices remaining constant over many years so they don't feel like they are going down, but in real terms they are ....inflation is set to rise (re; China putting up prices now).

Also "money goes to money".....more are at the top now and have plenty of wealth. They will probably keep hold of it. Plus the Russians are here now!

What you say is true but at the same time, a little balance would be better.

Correct but I didn't include that in my counts eariler. A quarter of the threads on the 'front page' being about the same abstract discussion is too much IMO.

Surely nobody wants a board that contains useful advice for people that feel they've got nowhere else to turn to become obsessives corner. There are plenty of good boards already discussing this stuff on the web.

I sometimes think that one of the reasons that HPCers come here is that HPC is too unbalanced. All the non-bearish posters have been scared/ moderated off leaving bunch of bears who can't get a decent debate going since they all agree. So they come here seeking people with contrary opinions. Instead they need to think more globally.

BANG ON! There's no one to disagree with! The moderators should consider what the level of censorship does to the popularity of their forum!
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • Some of the threads and comments on HPC are just plain silly these days. It's been spoilt by the lack of bullish views, with most posters seemingly sharing the same bed. But I've learnt a lot from HPC and will still frequent the site.

I recommend Fool.co.uk for a more balanced insight.

HPC seems to be full of 'uber bears' - idiots and Members of the National Front! There's no point in even hoping for a rational, well thought out discussion. Disagree with a 'bear' and you get banned!!!!!!! I sometimes visit www.globalhousepricecrash.com - A full and frank discussion, you won't get banned!

Fool and GHPC are both good although the debate on fool is a little 'robust' on occasion.

They like their evidence on the fool and will shoot you down in flames if you give them an opportunity. It's great fun though.

The mods are particularly fantastic there too ;)
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.
  • I think there are too many threads about there being too many threads about HPC. And if this trend continues, there could eventually be too many threads about there being too many threads about too many HPC threads. Something must be done!
