Too many house price crash threads...

I'd have no problems if new threads were only started to discuss new relevant information (such as a new price report etc)
but the endless, 'do you think the crash is here' type threads just turn into the same old names repeating the same old mantras. It's a health benefit ...0 -
Just an opinion but maybe it's good to separate ideas of futrre house price levels from 'OMG Im about to be homeless and need advice'.
Roughly a third of posters on the first page of this forum were from the former posting group when I checked in this pm*.
* Most were new/irregular posters but I chose not to read anything into that.0 -
Louise, nothing to be afraid of if you're trading up, the bigger the price, the further the fall

I remember touting this idea way before this thread was created, i'm seeing that the tide is slowly turning, keep up people!:cool:Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0

Sorry thesaint, thought it was clutton.
Now, for example, 5 out of 20 unpinned threads are about house price inflation in the abstract (there is one about a specific problem with falling prices in their locale that I don't include in the 5).
It's crowding out people that have genuine problems. If we can't get a sub-board, perhaps these threads could be merged.0 -
Sorry thesaint, thought it was clutton.<snip>
I mentioned it ages ago, someone probably mentioned it way before me.
When I suggested it, I was widely mocked and told "It's a House buying, Renting, Selling and Prices" forum, with the emphasis on "Prices".
I got bored with the hourly threads on the imminent HPC, so decided to not bother coming here. It was extremely tiresome.
I suppose a sub-board is not such a good thing, as I would return.:eek:Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
The trouble is that when people come on with "Why isn't my house selling" you have to explain that their house may be overpriced; which leads to explaining that they are competing with other overpriced houses. In effect the ones that sell are the ones that drop their prices. Then it is oh are house prices crashing!?
Personally I could do without the word "crash". One person's crash is another person's "correction". One person's "correction" is another person's bargain. The word "crash" has no useful, specific definition. If prices fell 75% I would call that a "crash". If they fell 50% I'd call it reasonable. If they fell 25% at least I could buy a home.
Maybe a "house prices/ property market board" and a "Why isn't my house selling" board. Really, you couldn't ban price correction discussions on a "why isn't my house selling" board.0 -

No one has talked about a 'Ban' of discussion.
What you are talking about is totally different to what I am talking about.
Someone explaining that another MSE'ers house is overpriced is completely different to the numerous threads started that usually contain the lines:
I was talking to my 6 year old over her eggy soldiers, and she knocked over the doll house that was on the table. This is symbolic of a (Dolls) House Price Crash... Discuss.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -

What you say is reasonable and I have no problem with discussing house price inflation/deflation, bubbles and so on.
The problem is the number of threads. To take a random time (now) we have:
Rightmove +2.7% in Sept
Britain's deflating buy-to-let bubble
Property Market
Earlier, we had 5 on the front page discussing house prices in the abstract. In addition there was a 'Help, I can't sell my house' which I didn't include.
The nature of many people (me anyway) is generally just to look at the first page or maybe 2 of threads. If we have tons of threads all essentially discussing the same thing it crowds out people that genuinely need help be it 'I can't sell my house' or 'My landlord won't get a gas safety cert'.
I don't want to censor anyone, just change the way we discuss this stuff. If we can't have a sub board, perhaps we could have a daily/weekly/whateverly thread called HPI/House Prices/Whatever.0 -
I fully agree with Generali, mind you I did start this thread so I should.
I sometimes think that one of the reasons that HPCers come here is that HPC is too unbalanced. All the non-bearish posters have been scared/ moderated off leaving bunch of bears who can't get a decent debate going since they all agree. So they come here seeking people with contrary opinions. Instead they need to think more globally.
Alternatively it may be they are looking to convert the masses & create a self-fulfilling prophesy.
Anyway back to the point in hand, please, try to contain yourself before starting a new thread. Look for the last one & add your thoughts/quotes/opinions to that & leave the majority of the board to people in serious need."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.0
