I see a mother walking her children to school while listening to music and completely ignoring them. Then she wonders why their behaviour is less than desirable....They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0

The behaviour is nothing new. The socially clueless, crass & classless have always existed, it's just that the new technology has given them more ways to be more visible about it.
Think of when The Brick went on sale and spawned the Prat With Mobile. The only thing that has changed is that phones are affordable now so every prat can be a PWM. And without a phone, they'd be loudly braying at their mate who is with them instead.
Go to a busy town centre and watch out for the number of people who bimble around with zero awareness that there are other people trying to use the space too. Watch the end of the escalator, in front of the cash points, doorways - and the sheer number of people who choose these places to stop and have a natter. Of course these self-obsessives are going to behave in the same sort of way online.
There really is nothing new under the sun.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -
Not had chance to read all the replies yet but thought I'd add my bit!
I found out my grandad died through facebook! I knew it was going to happen that day but my mum hadn't rang as I was in an interview.
I came out to a text asking to call her, and a message via Facebook saying "so sorry for your loss" from someone who I'm not even close to
Also had to defriend someone when they were pregnant and asking people what colour their "show" should be. I had to look up what that meant, and immediately wished i hadn't0 -
I think people are losing the concept of some things should be kept private.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0

I have been a user of facebook for years...and it annoys ME how addicted you can get ~ how you can spend literally hours if you wanted scrolling down and commenting etc...so I took the plunge just before xmas and deactivated it. Lasted about 3months quite proud of myself ~ people always moan your not on facebook how will I contact you..! (Erm you have my number?)
But I ended up back on it to try and promote by business...and got a few orders might I add! ...yet I find myself wasting time on it again and it's an endless circle....sigh.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
I'm sat in my works cafe right now which reminded me that the woman who serves is always either on her phone or looking on Facebook. The other day I popped in for a bag of crisps and she was on her phone and didn't stop chatting whilst serving me. Now that is bad manners!
Over the weekend I noticed a picture of a friend on Facebook taken at some event or other with a really short dress on and her fake boobs spilling over the top of her dress (she's 42 btw). No problem but her 8 year old son is on her friends list and will see what she posts plus in the past I've seen pictures of her tonguing her friends or sucking their nipples (she's married BTW). I mean !!!!!! it's not big or clever. I've unfollowed her because ok not a problem if your audience is over 18 but having her child on her friends list who sees all this is so wrong IMHO.0 -

I saw a picture of someone's blood clot/bit of placenta they'd "passed" after having a baby. Thanks for that, Facebook.0 -

Yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck. What is wrong with some people???
In general I don't think social media is a monster. I think it's the users and how the tool is used. Someone who needs to be the center of attention will always find ways to meet their objectives. Facebook just makes it a little bit easier for them. Bullies will always find a way to be horrible to someone and unfortunately FB is a nice easy tool for them to use. Before FB there were plenty of other ways to make someone's life a misery.
But I do think it can all be a little bit addictive. A bit like this forum. You think you'll just pop on for 10 minutes and before you know it 30 minutes has passed.0 -
