Trials of living in a block of flats

So right. It is really about people's awareness and consideration.
Sometimes they may need a little prompting..:rotfl:0 -
I live in a mid terrace house and we can hear our neighbours on one side very clearly.
They are a couple with two young boys (around 5 and 7 years old). Oh my gosh, the noise we hear from them!
They are a loud, inconsiderate family anyway - they all scream at each other just as a form of communication. They never just talk quietly. There is no discipline so the kids run riot while the mum just shouts at them all day.
The mum and dad have screaming arguments at each other, swearing and throwing things - sometimes with the kids in the same room.
We know all about their jobs, their friends and their social lives purely from the arguments and loud conversations they have.
It is hell on earth, but the end is in sight. We have sold the property and found a new (detached) one. I cannot wait to get out of this place.
Sorry for the rant. I suppose the moral of the story is that it doesn't matter where you live, you just need to be lucky with your neighbours.
Very glad things are much quieter for you Alice. Good for you for sorting it out.LBM February 2008. DFD March 2013 19 August 2011Debt at LBM £14,395.48. Debt Now £00 -
Nothing you moaned about strikes me as unreasonable of the neighbours!
There's only two of us and I use our machine a lot, as we like to be clean and shiny at all times, and I wouldn't bother about what the neighbours thought lol
I know the frustrations of insomnia, as I have it, but it's not the fault of the neighbours, and you would perhaps be better trying to sort out your work stress and calm down a bit.
I think perhaps you need help with your stress, as I, and most others, manage to have a wonderful quality of life, in the South, or perhaps you are homesick(?).
Flat dwelling, as with terraced dwelling, does mean that you do hear others, as they hear you, but providing it's "normal" noise, it needn't be a problem. The only way of avoiding all noise would be to buy a house in a field, I would think.

I agree with this. I don't think using a washing machine can be said to be unreasonable, and it's no-one else's business how often they use it.
The OP sounds very stressed and her poor neighbours are getting the brunt of her reaction to stress.
I think the OP could maybe ask the neighbours if they could use their washing machine earlier in the day as she can hear it but other than that she needs to get her own mental health sorted out.
I can't imagine that they would 'stomp' around, why would they do that?
Maybe she is not cut out for life in a flat.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
We live in a block of 4 flats and the floors are uneven. We hear the guy upstairs whenever he moves about but it doesn't bother us, music, tv, shouting etc would.
We live on a semi busy 1 way side road, with a row of private car parks opposite and behind us deliveries everyday to shops, bars, cafes etc. This doesn't bother us but the seagulls wake my partner up in the mornings. I wear earplugs and nothing really bothered me.Debt slowly coming down.[STRIKE] DRO off credit report July 2015![/STRIKE] credit history getting better!0
