Welcome raphael, I'd have thought the impending races you have would be a kick up the ar se enough.
    Thanks :D
Unfortunately I'm the opposite, the closer I get to my goal the less I want to do. Maybe it's the pressure?
I do enjoy running, it's just been hard to get off the sofa and get out recently.

Loads of people around me were like, "I'm so having a beer/gin & tonic (delete as appropriate) when I finish" and I'm just there like, "I can't drink so I'll stick to my Diet Coke." Although I did actually have a chocolate protein shake courtesy of bagman, aka hubby and a giant cookie he got me from M&S

Good job you didn't do the 7 miles that I did today then, as the prize for finishing was the limited edition beers... which i shall enjoy tonight ;)
There was water and flapjack going for free too. Needed as it was a tough run through long grass and lots of ups and downs ..

I'd have taken the giant cookie though :D

    Thanks :D

To be fair you are so close to the races that any real training is going to have no effect. Better just to get out and have a few jogs rather than going out to train. May help to motivate if its not really training too.

  • Looked out the window this morning, wet out but not actually raining. Thought of calling off my planned run but knew it was a weak excuse.
Stepped out the door, started raining.

I persevered though, did a couple of laps around the park (literally outside the front door). Only a small 1.48 miles but it's the first run I've done since 22 Aug so my Runkeeper tells me!!
Got very hot when I finished at the frontdoor, so only did a couple of stretches before coming inside.
I overheat very easily which can lead to fainting, luckily I usually recognise the signs in time and can get it under control. It gets better as my body adapts to the exercise so I do need to keep on top of it.

    Morning all.
I managed a PB at ParkRun on Saturday so the 3 ParkRuns I have done in the last 5 years / aka last 3 weeks have been 37:04, 34:16, 33:14. I set my goal for the 6 week program as 33 mins but there are still nearly 4 weeks left so I have reset to 32 mins. It was really warm on Saturday so I am hoping for some cooler weather this week.
Although my times are definitely improving the thing I am noticing most is that my recovery time is getting much shorter. It must be doing something good.
    Enjoy your runs everyone

@x_raphael_xx running in the rain is quite nice sometimes.

Well done @MallyGirl any PB is a good one. With the times coming down that quick 32 mins is definitely doable.

I've managed 3 PBs in 3 weeks too. But not to bring chunks off like that. Mines been from 20:32 (set in April) down to 20:22, 20:11, 20:06

  • Today I managed to up my cadence to 180 from 173.
Still quite short runs but no longer hurting all the time. Really concentrating on form. Especially as I am a large older lady.....:)

It is easier to take bigger bites off a larger total - but I am still very pleased with progress. My ParkRun is P shaped with a long straight start and finish and twice round the round bit. I am going to try and extend where I am around the curve before I get lapped for the first time as that is quite recognisable as a target. There are usually around 20 people coming in under 20 mins with the fastest at around 17 mins.
I like the stats that PR gives you as there are plenty of mini goals to play with - I was 10th in my age category (VW45-49) so that is something else I could work on.

Small targets are the best way to go. I have a similar target to your lapping one except at my local one there is 3 laps and I know where I normally start to lap the back markers. So I am actually trying to push that further back so that I go out slower as I have a tendency to do the first mile in about 6:10 which is too quick.
There must be some good runners (and a fair few) at your parkrun, ours normally has about 100 people. And I normally come in around 5/6th.

That's impressive! Mine normally hovers around 170-175 ish. Unless I am on swift descent where it heads up to about 210 lol.

  • No run for me today, the weather is still grotty and I've had to wait in for a carpet measuring blokey. I was told 10-12, its now exactly 12 and he hasn't shown yet
I have work in a couple of hours so won't be able to get a run in tonight.
My run yesterday did inspire my BF to head out when he got home so he completed a couple of laps too (hes a little achey today, although I seem fine)

There were 330 runners at ours last week and I came 271st :)
