Aim to try and get week 1 day 3 in tomorrow but Mondays are generally my busiest day, I have some time free tonight so I might start work early so I won't be working all day tomorrow.
Did an hours bike ride yesterday mostly flat, can't say I'm hurting to much this morning apart from when I sit down (bloody bike seats) but I can feel it which is why I won't push for day 3 today.

I regret to say that I've been pretty slack. The knee pain and the heat has slowed down my progress and I'm also feeling a lack of motivation. With my holiday imminent I think I'm going to have a break or at the most repeat week 3 to keep things ticking over but not move on any further than that.
My reasoning behind this is that I think I need the momentum to help me get through it and stopping and starting is going to make it hard once it's time to move onto the later weeks with longer runs. I also need to invest in a raincoat so that I can't use the wet weather as an excuse.
I promise I will be back and I'm not making excuses! I'll be back from holiday mid August so will get going then keeping my fingers crossed that we don't have a hot end of summer to throw a spanner in the works. I will then get cracking and hopefully get through the whole plan in one go.
Keep up the good work everyone, I will be following your progress so no slacking (unlike me)

There is no shame in repeating a week, it's what you are told to do if you are struggling, I also think someone mentioned their was a sudden hike on one of the weeks so a lot of people struggled, what matters is you (try you can't really get out of knee pain though) run regularly and build up to the 5k, whether it takes you 8 weeks or 16 it's the end result that matters.People don't know what they want until you show them.0

Thanks
I feel like a quitter in the short term but I know that once I get started again I will definitely be going for it, knee pain permitting. My big thing was actually getting out of the front door and getting started so now I've got over that hurdle it will definitely be all systems go post holiday!0 -
You're not a slacker, youre resting an injury like any good runner should
My hip seems to be getting better but I'm waiting until it improves a bit more before I go out again. The fact that my break has coincided with the hot weather has just been a bonus. I may go out next weekend and see how I get on before I lose all fitness and have to start off running the 60 second week again!0 -
Week 1 day 3 compete, really took it out of me I put a lot more effort into my run this time round and did the last jog for 2:30 again, I have a baby sitter tomorrow so hopefully can get w2 d1 out the way, I think it's taken me 10 days to do the first week so hoping I can get w2 done this week so I can start w3 for the next week....see how I go.
It's a great start for me anyway, and I've stuck to my diet last two days so here's to keeping at it..People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
I never thought I would ever say this but I'm really enjoying getting up early to run. Up at 6 this morning and out by 20 past. Did 2.29 miles in the drizzle0

I'm not keen on a shop "matching" you with a specific pair. A specific style like neutral, ones that counter pronation, cushioned/minimalist, but they should offer to let you try on different brands of each type of that show.
I'm surprised at Brooks being narrow, not something I would associate them with.
I was more hoping someone might be able to suggest a wider make of shoe.
I did go back to the shop to change them and have ended up with the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 15 in 2E (extra wide). I tried on loads of different types and they were all just horrifically narrow. Brooks was by far the widest "regular" fit. I know I have wide feet, but I can happily spend all day in a pair of converse so they can't be that wide.
Unfortunately I'm now worried that there is too much support in the shoes, but I couldn't fit into anything else! I also had to give up any hope of having a design I like because they only make the 2E in one style. I'm the one with the narrow feet in my family so I hate to think what any of my relatives would do if they took up running.
I'm now back on the road though and have 5k Race for Life in 9 days so I'm just hoping I can get through it after having to wait 2 weeks for my specially ordered shoes to arrive.0 -
I have the brooks running shoe, not sure which type though. I was recommended them as I struggle with plantar fasciitis and physio said I needed the extra support, can't say I get on with them though unfortunately but I hope they work for you. I just find them too rigid and clumpy, they've also brought my shin splints back on which I never used to get with my Nike.Santander 0% £1,529.94

I can't think of any brand noted for being a wide fit, but a couple that are known for narrow fit (Muzino for example).
Personally when it comes to the likes of plantar fasciitis or shin splints I'd be looking at fixing your running style, rather than trying to buy shoes to compensate for a running style that leads to injury.
I'm fortunate that I have an extremely neutral running style. I can wear any type of shoe and never have an issue. I've never understood who people end up with constant blisters and black toe nails. Think I've had all of two blisters in ten years of marathon running and never lost a nail.
If you find a shoe style that works for you then stick with it, be it cushioned/minimalist/neutral/supportive. I'm wary of the shoe fixes running style related injuries as the science behind it is awful.0
