^^ Awesome, however £35.00 seems a little steep for a small half marathon. How does the price compare with other local half marathons?
The most i have paid is £50 for the Great North Run, thats madness..but your buying into the whole scheme of things.
How much is enough?0 -
For many, you're paying for the name more than anything else. My first, I paid £11 for. That was Indian Queens. I then (or someone else due to a serious !!!! up on his behalf) paid £17 for Truro and then I paid about £29 for Bournemouth.
Plymouth Half is about £38 and you've got to buy your own t-shirt. I got a t-shirt and medal for Bournemouth.
I was stupid enough to pay £50 for the British 10k last year. It was the worst organised race I've ever done. And I've done a lot of races.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

The bigger the event the less value they are. The BUPA races are a classic case of that. Expensive to enter and cheap throw away cotton t-shirts. They're often on the telly, so everyone wants to do them!
If you want better value and friendly atmosphere you'd be better looking to the smaller club organised events. You don't have to be a club runner to run at them and no matter how slow you are you most likely won't be last.0 -
I've done one Bupa event (London 10,000) and loved it. And the t-shirts are nice too.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I was at the Bupa Great Birmingham run yesterday as a spectator whilst the wife was running.
The organisation was fantastic from when we got to the city centre at 8am till we left at about 4pm.
Considering the amount of preparation and organisation involved in marshalling 20,000 runners and their supporters as well as the kids runs etc, I think the £34 entrance fee was quite reasonable.
My wife got a good quality T-shirt, a quite weighty medal, free after run massage, accurate chip timing, with results sent directly to up to 3 mobiles as well as the obligatory "goodie bag" and interactive web site containing lots of interesting info on position with in different categories, i.e. gender, age group etc.
There is also, apparently, going to be photo's of all the finishers posted online at some point.
Over all it was a very enjoyable day.0 -
You weren't that guy at Eden yesterday who one of the marshals had to chase after to check he was ok, were you? I was on that corner with another female. He went past, looked a tad grey and was swaying into the hedge. The marshal with me ran after him to check he was ok. I'm not sure what happened to him. But I do hope he's ok.
And well done!
No, I'm not a blokeI ran the Bupa Great Birmingham Run, fabulous day! We went off in coloured bands and in two separate waves to give everyone chance to space out. The support was fantastic and I liked the t-shirt as well

Usually one free photo, stood in the finish area against the Great Run background. Finish line etc are all extra, and at a premium too..0 -
Hi everyone, I'm back again after a bit of a break.
The half marathon I'd been training towards all summer (Ealing) went really badly because it was unbelievably hot for the time of year and I underestimated just how hot and set off too fast for the conditions.
After that, I went on holiday, then just got out of the habit a bit.
3 weeks later I'm getting back into it before too much damage is done, I hope. Might do a small half marathon next weekend to make up for Ealing, but not really expecting a pb with the lack of training recently. I might be lucky though!
Also coming up soon, I've got to start marathon training ready for spring. I ought to get some long, slow runs in before I start following a plan for it, but I've got at least 4 races lined up in the next 2 months so that might not happen.
Newthrift - it'll only take you a few weeks to get from 5k to 10k. Go for it! Just think - once you're doing 10ks, 5k will be just a short little run, and when you're doing half marathons, 5k will barely be a warm-up!Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
House buying: Finished!
Next task: Lots and lots of DIY0 -
Lizling good luck with Marathon training, shame about the Ealing run just the way it goes sometimes I guess - damn english weather
I look forward to the day 5k feels like a warm up
New running gear turned up (sale stuff) and I was a little to excited :rotfl: did 2.5miles last night and going for 3miles tomorrow. will try and squeeze another on Friday and 3 - 3.5miles. Anyone any advice on upping mileage or just creep it up slowly?Christmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:

Creep it up slowly.
Somehow, it's only just over a week until the Plymouth 10k. I thought I had much more time than that!Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
