Do you all just run or do you incorporate other sports/activities into your life?
I'm trying to work out a fitness/weight loss plan and I think from previous experience running alone isn't enough, I'm trying to work out an achievable timetable to allow me to run 3 x a week and also do some more strength and cardio.
I try to mix it up. Obviously if training for something specific you cannot get around putting in the required mileage, tempo runs etc but when in maintenance mode I aim for 2 or 3 4-5 mile runs and alternate long runs of 6/7/8 occasionally 10 each week. I mix it up with squash, cycling and weights.
I've never really focused on one sport, but over the past couple of years have spent more time on entering competitive runs and completed the Windermere marathon twice. This has taken it out of me somewhat, so I'm back to mixing it up again, which has helped. Currently training for a half marathon in October.
Good luck with your routine, main thing is it works for you.0 -
Will be glad when this half marathon training is over. Got up early (5am) on Saturday to get the run out of the way. It was dark.
Torch time I think!
Respect! This is so hard to do, especially if you're having to eat breakfast first. But it is great to get it out of the way. Had some fab early runs in Menorca recently, to the sunrise. No hassle though as it was warm and it meant I got our family some decent sunbeds by the pool!!0 -
Had a few days off with an injury. Now I'm back, but it's taper time!Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
House buying: Finished!
Next task: Lots and lots of DIY0 -
I'm supposed to be running a half-marathon at the weekend but I've been rubbish over the last few weeks and the most I've done is 10 miles (several weeks ago). Today is my last opportunity for a run and I seem to have some sort of stomach upset. Excuses excuses. However, I have learned that the race has no cut off point so I guess I can fake a sprained ankle and just hobble in with the people in walrus costumes and diving suits...0

if you've done 10 miles i'm sure you can manage 13 - even if though it might be tough
if the race is at the weekend you shouldn't be doing any long or fast runs now just rest up as much as possible - you won't gain or lose fitness between now & the event
i'm sure you won't be last, but fwiw i read a thread on a running forum about people who had come last in events and most said they got massive support/respect from the crowd & other competitors as the last person running
keep positive!0 -
My longest run was 10 miles for yesterday's half. That half was painful. I am currently hobbling.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Congrats for completing. I'm undercooked for a half marathon I've entered in 3 weeks time, mainly due to being out injured. Managed 8 miles yesterday, felt fine. Hoping to go out for 11/12 next weekend. Reckon I can get round, but at a comfortable pace.0 -

That would be me! I came last on Sunday and got a massive cheer. They announced that I was doing my 8th race, which means a trophy for me in November. I then got a spot prize of more beer (!) and a few pasties.:rotfl:
See, it's not that bad coming last. I came last in my first half marathon and the crowd was fantastic. Especially when you get the little kids trying to drag you around the last bit of the course.:rotfl:Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

That will be me! But the thought of pasties will keep me going!0
