fuming at irrsponsible pub

Options
My son is 16 and had a part time job. He gets paid weekly and because of the easter holidays he earned quite a bit of extra dosh.

On Saturday after he finished and had received his money, he went to the pub where he spent all of the money he had worked really hard for on alcohol and in the fruit machines. He came home Saturday night about 9 o clock and he wasn't hammered, however you could smell that he had a couple of pints.

Now im really really fuming that he has spent all his money , roughly 80 quid in the fruit machine. Ive complained to the pub but keep getting brushed off. Where do I stand in reagrds to the owners of the fruit machines? There is a sign on it saying "Not fir use by anyone under 18" - Can I make a claim against them to get his money back?

This just seems really unfair that he worked so hard for his money.

Any help really appreciated.

No. Can you prove that's where the money went. Maybe he loaned it out and was too drunk to remember. Maybe he drank it. Why are you not concerned that he was drinking ?

Good lesson learned for your son...hopefully. He earned it so maybe next time he'll think twice about how he spends it.

he wasn't drunk though and did spend the money on the fruit machine.

Surly the owner of the fruit machine has a duty of care to stop people underage playing. Also as it was a deal or no deal machine, I wondered if the makers of the program would be able to help instead or getting bad press.

Got no problem with son going to pub, stops him hanging around on the street drinking. Just fuming he was allowed to use the machine when he wasn't old enough to

Oh dear OP, can your son not read ?

Maybe he will learn his lesson and not do it again.

Your son can read I assume?
If so then he knows he did wrong by playing that machine.

How have you dealt with your son?

KrissCross - you're aiming your ire at the wrong target. Your son chose to go into the pub. Your son chose to drink. Your son chose to waste his cash on the fruit machine. (And yes, I've been in your shoes )

    Obvious troll is obvious.

If you're not, he was drinking illegally also. So you can't be hypocritical.

Poor boy has lost all his money. The chef at the pub no doubt was watching him put it all in, put about a tenner in later on and got the payout. Every pub chef I know used to rake it in following on from drunken boys like yours :)

So you're okay with the pub serving him alcohol but want them to stop him playing the fruit machine? Very odd.
