So your girlfriend is going to insure it with you as a named driver but you are going to drive it most of the time = dodgy.0

My tax is due up at the end of the month and I can't find the MOT certificate. The post office make NO checks whatsoever on the validity or otherwise of insurance or MOT.

When I got tax at the post office recently I took my MOT certificate as required by the letter that was sent. The guy behind the counter saw my certificate and said that it was only needed if there was a problem.
In my case there was no problem, apparently, and the guy didn't look at the MOT certificate. But it definitely said on the letter to take it (and didn't say to take the insurance certificate).
So, tberry, I'd suggest going to the post office without it and hoping. But don't leave it until the last minute in case there is a problem and you need to find the certificate!0 -

As I've already said, I taxed my car on 31st March using only the new keepers slip (just bought car that week kept off road). Did not need to show insurance or MOT cert nor was I asked.
The tax renewal reminder says the car is required to have an MOT e.g over 3 years old. It does not say you need to show MOT cert at the post office.0 -

I'll have a look at my renewal reminder later.0 -

Post office staff always have a habit of making their own rules up. Just like with print-at-home online insurance certificates. Some would accept it but if you got a dinosaur nearing pension age, they would scream at you accusing you of fraud and all sorts.0 -

The DVLA will see they taxed a car without insurance. I wonder if the fine will arrive faster than the new V5C?
As teh car is not insured you need to SORN it and return the tax otherwise its going to cost you more.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
