Can I purchase car road tax with a 24hr car insurance cert?

Hi

I was looking to purchase a car,has mot,V5 available, would take out 24hr car insurance to allow me to drive car home.

Would post office have any objections as it would only be a valid 24hr car insurance I'd be able to provide?

Fathers due back from holiday who would then add car onto his insurance.

PS - don't mind paying the 24hr car insurance as I'm getting the car at a very good price.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

No problems, Post Office no longer look at insurance or MOT. They leave that sort of thing to DVLA/police.

Only if it is on MID .
Which it will not be, carry the certificate as well and a phone number to call the company, every ANPR traffic car will pull you first sight.
Some will not accept roadside certificates if it is not on MID, they will make one phone call, if it is not answered, away goes the car.

I was under the impression that if you were able to show a valid Insurance Certificate (or cover note) then they couldn't seize the car, no matter what the MID says.

Is there someone to answer the MID phone 24 hours a day?

The MID is a database on a computer. It doesn't need a phone.

Having a bit of paper with "insurance certificate" on it proves nothing. The policy may have been cancelled. The certificate could be completely fake.

A lot of people insure on-line these days, and get the certificate emailed to them. It wouldn't take much Photoshopping to change the date and print out a new copy of last year's certificate.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

If the car is not on MID, you are in trouble there and then.
They will ask you who you are insured with and make a phone call to the insurance company.
If they can not get a straight answer, he default is the car is seized on suspicion of not having insurance, you can argue the rest later, they do not care, it is not their money.

Only reason why I need to do 24hr insurance is to be able to drive away after purchase plus gf is due back from holidays the day after, would then be able to add car onto her insurance.

My question is if I take a print out of 24hr insurance to post office with V5 + mot would they tax vehicle ok?

If I could get that hurdle out the road with it would be half my battle.Yes if pc plum stopped me saying nothing's coming up to confirm insurance etc well fair enough, wouldn't be slow in getting my lawyer onto it after etc

Despite all the comments about how easy it would be to great a false Insurance Certificate I still think that the fact that a car is not on the data base is not sufficient on its own to cause a vehicle to be seized.

Here's what the MIB FAQs have to say:

Can the police legally seize my vehicle just because there’s no record of my vehicle on the MID?

No. The police need to satisfy themselves that they have reasonable belief the vehicle is being driven without insurance, and the MID acts as an aid in that judgement.

    http://www.mib.org.uk/Motor+Insurance+Database/en/MID+Faqs/Can+my+vehicle+be+seized+just+for+not+being+on+the+MID.htm

But of course some Police Officers may use their 'nose for a wrong un' and not always give the driver, who has produced a seemingly valid Insurance Certificate at the scene, the benefit of the doubt.

I for one do not have total faith in any computer data bank being 100% accurate as the input is done by humans and we know how fallible they can be.

The post office make NO checks whatsoever on the validity or otherwise of insurance or MOT.
