  • In old office today and bought a roll and sausage and fried onions. It was bloody delicious but meant I spent 74p. Sent my son to school with no money for his breakfast club..oops!! He is in debt and only 9. I wont add it to my siggy though as it will be paid tomorrow lol.
Going to my first meeting tomorrow about my diploma course and am all excited. Apparently there are 5 residentials hehehe. Havent studied for a few years now so really dying to get back into it.
Been sticking to my menu plan like glue the last couple of weeks. Came in tonight and DD had the menu plan out looking at what was for tea and she was getting the pasta on. If she had bothered to start the dinner before she would have just picked her favourite dinner and started that off. It definately works in this house. I must say it focuses you and we eat much better when the plan is done. xx

Sounds like your DD is better trained than my OH. Every time I buy nice spicy sausage to go in pasta (instead of tuna which is what I normally resort to as the cupboard gets low) - I then discover he's gone and made himself sandwiches with it instead - meanwhile last month I had to throw out an unopened block of cheese because it had gone out of date:mad:

And I've just realised he's managed to do it again! I've taken the day off (to wait in for an ntl man who I suspect isn't going to turn up) so I said I would cook a big stew which will last us for about 4 meals. Last night he starts cooking tea (to my surprise but I'm not complaining) and now I discover he's only left me three small potatoes to cook the stew with, and I can't go shopping because the ntl guy can turn up anytime between 12 and 4.

It's wierd, he's a very intelligent guy, with a good job, and even a pretty good cook when he can be bothered, but anything to do with household management seems to be totally beyond him. It would be easier for me just to take over but I don't want us to turn into my mum and dad!

  • God no Red let him carry on. My ex did nothing. We came home at night from work and I went into the kitchen to sort out dinner/washing/kids etc and he headed onto the couch. Git lol. So take my advice do not discourage him.x

lol you're right MIT, it's probably worth the odd unscheduled shopping trips!

Fortunately the ntl guy came quite early so I had the chance to pop out and get the spuds and some bits and pieces I need for making xmas cards, so everthing's worked out in the end - as long as he does the washing up!

  • Quite right red.

It still doesnt cease to amaze me the amount of money you can save by shopping around and then the wonderful bonus of cashback. My house and contents insurance is due in January and I have been getting quotes to see how I get on. I will save £22 per month in addition to getting £65 cashback. I am sorely lamenting all the money I have wasted over the years. No more I tell you :D .
Spent a wee bit today. DS is away on a trip with the school so I had to buy him a disposable camera and give him a couple of pounds to spend. Bought some chocolate and medicine as well. Missing him already as house is very quiet without him.
Hope everyone is well and not going too mad on the spending.x.

    Hi Everyone,

Don't forget Secret Millionaire is on tonight. Well it's on now on channel 4, but I'm watching it an hour later on channel 4 + 1 as hubbie is watching footie.

Hope you are all well. It was my day off work today and I went down to the post office to take ebay parcels. Won't be going there again, sick of them moaning when I go in with an armful.
I'm gonna do them all online now.
    xx
  • Hi Binnie. I forgot about the secret millionaire and for some reason it is not on replay.

I have kind of lost the plot spending wise at the moment. Went to ASDA last night for bits and pieces for the kids and other wee bits for pressies and I was £146 !!! I then came home and did an online food shop and was nearly £200. I cant believe it. I have got nearly everything in now though so hopefully get back on the straight and narrow. My bonus this month is going to have to be elastic to stretch and pay the things I have bought on the strength of it. Oops !!

lol MIT, you sound just like me! This year is the first time in 7 years that I've been paid my pay rise on time, in the past it's always been 6 or 7 months late. Most people at work don't seem to mind because they like getting the back pay in a lump sum - but I hate it because I've always spent it 3 times over in anticipation!

I've been bad because I bought some craft bits to make gran's birthday card with, when I've probably got more than enough stuff already (I'm just missing the inspiration), but it was only £8, and I did use a voucher to get £5 off an xmas pressie for a friend so in my mind it's almost cost-neutral!:rotfl:

  • And Red your justification to yourself is as dubious as mine :rotfl: .

I must admit though last year when I was spending for Christmas I was really worried and even though I kept spending I was wondering how the hell Iwas going to pay for it. I also had a holiday booked last year and had to pay for that. This year I have reduced my debt a fair bit and no holiday booked so no pressure and most of Christmas is already paid so not too bad and not at all worried how it will be paid. I hope anyone reading this and worrying about their debts can take heart and see from my experience that with hard work you can get out of the brown stuff. x

  • I have just read my last post and laughed at myself. Although it is more or less true I am p*ssed off at myself at the sheer amount I have spent recently. Funnily enough Penguin 83 and I both had our LBM in July and both have worked really really hard but are both seeing Christmas and present buying etc as a license to spend. I am getting back on the straight and narrow tomorrow by hook or by crook.
I am going to make alist of what I still need for the festive season and get it all in when I get paid except for fresh food. I am going to do the grocery challenge again and try and stick to it :o . I will allow myself an extra £50 though so it wont be impossible to succeed. My night out is paid.
Spent £80 in Homebase today on wallpaper. Going tomorrow to buy flooring and then I will sit back and enjoy my lovely new kitchen. ( The decorating and flooring was budgeted for with my bonus due in December)

I really need to get all my bills in in December to see where I stand for the new year and really go for it then. It might not be nearly as bad as I think. I just feel so guilty if I spend these days lol.
