Someone told me to get the kids to help with meal planning and thats just what I did tonight. Great idea. Have 5 meals out of the 7 sorted and quite healthy too:eek: . TBH they seem to prefer home cooked these days. They know if they ask for processed carp then I'll more than likely say no. Too expensive and absolutely minging to boot.
I dont have a lot of money this week ( ok then I never have much money lol) but worse this week. I have £180 to pay next week to a credit card and need to get another £90 from my £130 weekly money to be able to pay it. Doesnt leave much. Never mind if I manage it then I will be laughing next week.
Am knackered tonight. Between my vivid dreaming last night and training on a new job I am wiped out. Just going to sit here and read all the posts and look for soup recipes. Must make my own bread this week too to cut the costs a bit. I hate cheap bread so if I cant afford decent stuff I need to make it.
I desperately need to lose weight as soon as possible as I am getting really uncomfortable and breathless. I have noticed a lot of peeps on here seem to have weight problems as well as money probs. Soups are a great way of eating healthily and cheaply, so will be good for the weight and the purse too!

HI MIT,
Just been reading you're diary, and i'd just like to give you a pat on the back and say well done, you're doing really well. What kind of things are on you're meal plans? It sounds like a good idea for cutting costs

Hi Stevesless
I make sure we have plenty of brekkie things, and soups, sandwiches, yoghurts etc for lunches. Kids are at my mums just now as school has been out for 3 weeks here already so that saves me a fair bit. Tonight I asked them to choose 2 meals each for next week and they choose Macaroni cheese, Spaghetti bol, Lasagne and corned beef hash. Smashing!! All nice and easy for me lol and I might try and make double amounts so that we can get a store cupboard week some week next month. I know I have chicken, rolled ham and stew in the freezer so thats me sorted for another 7 days . Easy peasy and food should cost < £20. Could probably be less but I allow them to choose 1 treat per week which normally costs me about £1 each. They have accepted this like ducks to water. Make sure you have lots of fillings for bread ie jam, meat, potted paste. I also usually have ice poles and cheapo crisps. Not all healthy but not too bad in moderation. Go to the old style board and you will se hundreds of meal plans and some people do them on a thread there every week. Loads and loads of ideas. Good luck x5 Year plan. Great,
Thats what we need to do! I'm trying to educate my daughter to eat better, shes 3 and wants to eat crap all the time! I got an allotment back in May, and things are just starting to come to fruition. We've got strawberries, blueberries, potatoes, sweetcorn, beetroot, caulifliower, peas, tomatoes, green peppers and lettuce. I've got my daughter involved, and now she loves coming up there with me. I'm hoping she'll eat the fruits of our labour and save us a few quid in the process.
Thanks again for the advice0 -
You're welcome. I find that hunger is good kitchen. My kids are much less fussy if they are hungry lol and they really look forward to their dinner now as they arent eating loads of junk in between. I haven't stopped snacks all together I just don't replenish them constantly.
I had a NSD today. Woohoo!! Had a store cupboard dinner which was quite nice also. We had chicken breasts, bread sauce, kids had pasta and sauce and I had smash(). Filled a space lol. I have taken lunch into work since I went back last week and not once have I been to the canteen even for some chocolate:j . Must have saved a bleeding fortune with that alone.
Made banana muffins from ripe bananas. Kids not eating them so they will go into work tomorrow. Some gannet will eat them. Taste nice too.
Just chilling tonight and watching the telly. Cant wait till I get paid so I can see my balance go down a bit. Will be more difficult once schools go back though as I need to pay after school care then :mad:5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60

m-i-t, you're an inspiration, you've made so much progress it's amazing! And the meal planning is awesome. I always mean to do this but can never manage more than a couple of meals at a time.
Your Martin dream made me laugh. And then, guess what, I dreamed about Gordon Brown last night! I dreamed I was working in sainburys' (where I have never worked) and he was telling me what a great job I was doing and that I could go and work for him any time. I was really chuffed.
Take care and keep posting.

Don't take the muffins in to work, wrap them and stick them in the freezer so you can have one each day for your treat.
When you do your meal plans don't forget to make sure that you are getting the correct proportions of foods and keep up your fruit and veg intake.
A thing I heard was to set a timer for 15 minutes when you start to eat tea. Once you have finished, sit and drink a glass of water. Then relax until timer is done.
