    I'm working backwards,

I downloaded Keyfinder. Is it safe to post results on here? I did try to PM but your box is full.

You can post them via PM, I've freed up the space. I can check if it's a valid key. I've replied to your earlier PM.

OK, grandaughter (2) gone for a sleep. Time for me to spend a while on here. I used Glary Disc Analyse and it showed Users 40.30Gb and Windows 12.54GB and Programme Files 6.82GB.

I did as suggested, Disc Clean but could not see 'More Options' tab.

The other advice offered above, I'm about to look at.

    Thanks.

rather than seeing the More Options tab straight away, you may have to :-
    run disk cleanup, then,
click the Clean system files box, then continue with the more options tab :)

I would upgrade the memory to 4 GB, regardless; just get a couple of 1 GB modules for the two empty slots.

Posting a HJT log is likely to have much more impact on your slow bootup than adding more memory!

written for vista but applies to W7 also, follow this as a first step to get shut of restore points, that'll give you a few GB of free space to play with :)

I have done as above but nothing happens when I press the delete. Is it working in the background?

I have downloaded HJT and did a scan but I have no idea how to post it on here. I tried Copy & paste but when I did there were too many characters.

    Copied from closed speedup sticky:
(if you have a problem running hijackthis (For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file error etc) on vista/W7, right click on hijackthis.exe and run as admin, if that doesn't work, try again holding down the shift key and run as admin). If you are unable to post the log on mse, due to this site's posting bug, upload it here http://freetexthost.com and post a link to the text file instead.

Scan done. How do I get the HJT log on here, please? I'm now looking on youtube to see how to post log.

Ok, notepad opens but nothing is in it.

    Notepad reads 'cannot find file'

YES!! as in the original post I linked to, "IT MAY TAKE A WHILE ESPECIALLY IF YOU'VE NEVER DONE IT BEFORE!"

Once you've clicked on it to set it off on the Shadow Copies/Reastore Points, put the mouse pointer over the OK button. Once it's it's finished calculating what it can delete, the OK button will highlight blue to show you can proceed, then click OK ;)
