(20% + free aids performance)
74.4 GB capicity
73.2 GB used
I also have an external HD
1.81 GB of which 325 GB is Free. Mostly used now to store silly amounts of photos and video of grandchildren.0 -
it's unlikely to make any difference - look at task manager, performance and see commit charge, it should be well under 2GB
post a hijackthis log, scan with malwarebytes, cleanup with ccleaner, or reinstall
Looking on Google re hijackthis?
I have done a scan with malwarebytes.
I use ccleaner on a regular basis.
Unable to do a clean reinstall (disc mistakenly dumped). I do have an old XP disc but that is of no use now.
ps, in Task Manager, under performance, Memory is showing 1.05 GB. Is that used or free?
Thanks.0 -
it means, ram isn't your problem, and more won't make any noticeable difference to speed.
See the speedup sticky, or search mse for hijackthis, it's downloadable from filehippo.com
use https://antibody-software.com/web/software/software/wiztree-finds-the-files-and-folders-using-the-most-disk-space-on-your-hard-drive/ and www.voidtools.com to see what's using up all that disk space
If you're only storing those photo's in one place, it's risky if that one place fails, and they do fail, often.
What exactly is slow!!

Hi closed,
re my photo's, I have them on 2 x Ex HD and many many DVD's. (Thanks).
Grandchildren have been here all day and I'm bushed! I will look at your links during the day but I'm grateful for the links.
Re what is slow, Startup takes 5-6 minutes to load (is that normal?)
Web pages seem to take an age to load.
I will search the speedup sticky tomorrow.

Unless you purchased it with a Microsoft COA, it would be no good to you either.
If it is a genuine Product key, you can retrieve it using this KeyFinder. The disc itself is readily available to download.
I'll send you a PM in order to take a look.0 -

the lack of hdd space is probably going to be the biggest factor - the pagefile won't be able to operate properly... as per the suggestions above you need to see what's eating up the disk space...
...my money's on old restore points/shadow copies, and probably a windows.old file or two from the previous reinstalls - getting shut of those will free up in the region of 30GB......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

written for vista but applies to W7 also, follow this as a first step to get shut of restore points, that'll give you a few GB of free space to play with......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

OK, grandaughter (2) gone for a sleep. Time for me to spend a while on here. I used Glary Disc Analyse and it showed Users 40.30Gb and Windows 12.54GB and Programme Files 6.82GB.
I did as suggested, Disc Clean but could not see 'More Options' tab.
The other advice offered above, I'm about to look at.

I'm working backwards,
I downloaded Keyfinder. Is it safe to post results on here? I did try to PM but your box is full.0
