There's a small independent restaurant in Coventry that's had a sign in its window saying "Sorry our card machine is out of order" for over a year now.

It does make you wonder if their card machine is broken, why not get it fixed or replaced? Or do they want to switch to cash payments only? In which case, why not just say so?

Broken for over a year....MMMMM...Tell that to the tax man.

If whoever you said that to actually finds this thread I can imagine they'll be rolling on the floor laughing at the responses you've had! :rotfl:

Good grief. The OP must find everyday life jolly stressful.

well thankyou for your oh so sarcastic responses. bet you think your so big behind the computer screen well how about you come say it to my face. shell were rude to an elderly lady, didnt help that the worker barely spoke english.

a friend of mine owns a conservatory business and has told me it is actually the law to display a list of payment methods at the point of purchase. a cheap a4 sign is not enough.

all that was on the pump was a printed sheet of a4 paper saying "sorry, cash payments only" hardly enough of a warning that they dont take cards.

It's also not enough of a warning that they don't accept milk bottle tops as payment for fuel but anyone with a modicum of intelligence would know what the sign actually means.

You didn't read the sign before you dispensed the fuel anyway, so it wouldn't have made any difference what it said.

Your fault, you didn't read the sign. And rather than admit you made a mistake you throw a hissy fit on the poor sales assistant who was probably having a bad enough day as it was, then you make an even bigger fool of yourself on here. Well done.
