  • I'm in no way mocking the person's loss but I think it is extremely distasteful to put that kind of information into the public domain. If you open yourself up like that then you are inviting comment and potential ridicule.

Maybe its just me - I truly do not understand why people feel comfortable putting every aspect of their lives on the internet.

Plus, I don't think anyone should be drawn into a "whose grief is greatest" competition. EVERYONE has problems. Who are we to judge who is most "deserving" simply because of what fate has thrown at them.

I notice the winner wrote that her best freebie was a beanbag chair from an advent comp so all the 'sob stories' didn't garner any favouritism anyway.
Thank you to everyone who posts on the competitions boards. You all rock!

We are comper! Which I think means we can in a friendly and humorous way mock others in the comping world. If one posts long stories about the lack of potatoes on a post which can be seen by anyone then one should realise there is going to be someone who will come along and laugh and point.

As a general rule of thumb don't post something which you could be upset about if somebody ridicules you for it because there is always a chance somebody will.

The winner of the competition had got a bean bag or something as a freebie.

And if you behave judgementally to others, then don't complain when others are as judgemental to you, whether because they don't like compers or anything else.

Except that the poster referred to wasn't 'mocking', she was apparently indulging the old idea that a lost child should be swept under the carpet and forgotten

and there is the keyword 'apparently'

'apparently' i could have a multitude of problems that would give me the upper hand in the sob story stakes.

Some things shouldn't be ut on FB for the sympathy vote.
