Question of the day!
On Sunday OH's aunt is doing a meal for various family members .. a variety of curries apparently.. now, I don't eat curry.. none, it is vile.. would it be rude if I were to take a piece of cooked meat and ask to pop it in their oven or microwave to warm it up to have with the rice etc his aunt cooks??
I agree with you far less rude to take something than have to sit there and just eat rice - in fact I expect she'd be gutted if that's all you ate. I sometimes have to do that because I'm veggie (definitely had to do when I was vegan!)0 -
Piggers like you I cannot eat curry or lots of other stuff, lentils, onion etc etc (but much less than your list). I'm not a real foodie so eat for subsance (unless it's cake and chocolate) . I would have no trouble taking my own food (infact I don't eat rice either) and just politely say I'm sorry but I cannot for medical reasons eat xyz. People with religious food preferences don't feel rude saying things so why should we.
Doing really well with dot-to-dotting and clearing small piles of stuff which have sat around for far too long - part of the reason being I want to try moving the furniture in the dining room tomorrow to see if we can have a bigger table. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Pigpen: OK, maybe it's time to be blunt with all of them including OH. If you have some spectacular problems with your intestines after eating garlic or whatever food it is, tell them every last detail.
Everything from the flatulence to the explosive poos or whatever it is you get. Let them know if it affects milk production or breast feeding or gives the babies tummy troubles. All of it. Make them _pale_ At least then they can't say they didn't know. It would be nice if you got a bit of support on this.‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

Thank you all... I don't want to appear offensive to OH's family though they are frequently offensive to me.. maybe they will learn from my example
LARGE pot of mince/veg on the go this afternoon and I will portion up, freeze and take it for me and probably my girls too.
I have issues with salad/garlic.. BAD tummy cramps and frequent lavatorial visits for a couple of days at least afterwards. Onions I can tolerate small amounts. Sauces like Soy sauce aggravate my delicate kidneys and bladder. Red fruits (which I LOVE!!!) cause a fabulously tasteful rash.. its very itchy but sometimes strawberries and piriton are called for!
I don't expect to be catered for singularly especially as she is going to so much effort already making 3 pots of food.. so I shall take my mince and snaffle her rice.. but then had a horrid thought.. what if it is spicy/flavoured/bitty rice???
I am such a baby!!! I hate not being one of those people that just tips down everything and they make me feel like a big PITA.
Laundry caught up on.. rabbit still ticking on.. cat getting fat.. OH outside playing in the mud.

Welcome Luckystarr and (((hugs))) for Lynnejk. I hope your OH finds something else really quickly. Pigpen, I wouldn't mind, but if someone is determined to be offended, they will be. I'd be offended if I told someone I couldn't eat something (liver *blurch* even just the smell of it cooking) and they cooked it for me when I was their guest, so I wouldn't worry too much about their delicate sensibilites if I were you.
Another WM load is on the line and Mrs Dog's sheepskin is drying after being washed yesterday, as well as the final piece of handwashing. Whoopsied big bunch of parsley turned into a parsley sauce (I love sauce flour, it's so easy to use!) and I have started cooking for Mrs Dog. I said I couldn't go through that again, but I can't see any way around this, particularly as she's at risk of diabetes and she simply won't eat dog food during the day. I think she was fed nibbles from the table (she begged a lot when she first arrived) and one big meal last thing at night in her old life and getting her on to three small meals a day just isn't happening with any tinned dog food she's allowed. I'll slide in a meal of it as a treat occasionally; she'll eat it that way.
We opened the cheapest of the French supermarket plonk last night and it was absolutely superb, so I've booked for us to go back again in a fortnight while C the lodger is still here, the regular dog sitter hasn't podded and the ferry offer is still on. It's a lot cheaper than going on a proper holiday and we didn't have enough time to hunt for the jacket OH wants while we were in Morlaix, so we can make time this time. And we can buy a car boot's worth of the fabulous cheap supermarket plonk. Result!Better is good enough.0 -
I think I'm sort of making headway in the kitchen - I've sorted 3 cupboards out and thrown loads of stuff so hopefully now I can clear the stuff off the worktops into the space I've created in the cupboards!NST #10 Steps 7K 2/30 10K 2/12 5 a day 3/30 NSD 0/20
