Definitely the way we should all live. Don't think we have anything for best here. Burn those candles, wear those clothes and enjoy everyday being special :j

Mrs Moneypenny, we use our 'best' of everything every day otherwise it may never get used.mrs-moneypenny wrote: »thats what i realised, theres no point in having it in the attic for 364 days of the year, and using other stuff that was old and needed replacing when we had a nice set up there. less clutter and it gets used
I did the 'putting to one side' for best thing for years - now I no longer do; waste of time.
When my step-grandmother died they found NO END of NEW stuff she'd bought and kept for best. I got new pans, teatowels, alsorts...and it gets used. The thing I don't use daily is the china dinner service; but the Denby I do use daily probably cost more anyway.
YOU and YOUR FAMILY deserve the best everyday;)
I am attempting the pit - aka the dining room. I have found stuff in there that would grace a hoarder's home (unpacked shopping). I am very demoralised by it.
So if anyone can whoosh some GUAG over here for an hour or:cool: soDon't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

We dig out the Royal Albert china that was Mr LW's mum's, and her nice cutlery, for birthdays, anniversaries, and the Sabbats (all 8 of 'em); and we use the "decent" glassware too. If it ain't being used ever, what's the point of having it?:o
I'm a tad miffed though, I've got to cook Qu0rn fillets with roast roots and white wine sauce tomorrow - I was hoping to have my dins cooked for me.:( *sulks*
OK, "walkies" as I am being informed by two small furballs. Back later.;)If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Afternoon all,
Done a few odds and ends today whilst OH is sleeping. It's very boring when he's on night shifts and I have to do quiet things all day.
However, I have...
- ran a few errands this morning
- fixed the down pipe
- did a run to the tip and spoke to a scrap metal man about some items we need to take to him (will try take them tomorrow)
- did the washing up
- washed the hand wash wool items
- filed 6 months worth of filing
Just need to walk the dogs and going to upcycle some photo frames tonight

Yesterday, got up at 7.30am,went to kitchen, threw veg curry together (but not the 8 person + one I was asked to make at first). Made a veg quiche (without pastry) and boiled some eggs.
Whilst they were cooking I chopped raw veg (eating my way through a bowl of leftover red and green pepper, carrot, celery, broccoli, cauli and mushroom) and did salads and dips (cheated a lot, bought hummus, tzaziki and coleslaw YS'd to 10p each - usually make my own but 10p?, took out half the coleslaw and stirred in tomato puree for prawns.
Quiche was slow to cook - had everything else packed in two large bags (using recycled takeaway containers - I cadge mum's pile every few months), taped masking tape over the pan lid and wrapped it in a small towel. Didn't dare leave quiche as I don't trust the (new to me) oven.
Got dressed in good clothes (mum kindly pointed out the holes in my favourite dress last week). Phoned for a taxi - must have been on my feet for an hour so. Mum was still at church, her partner was sleeping in his chair. His gd, 2 ggds and dog 1 (mad puppy is down south with other twin gd and her intended - she's leaving him down there with his mum when she comes back so he may be on probation again - intended not the puppy.)
Mum arrived home. We had lunch and then combined film watching with playing with our hm cards and doing more crafts ('eyes of god', cards for our mums and foam flowers). Five minutes after I had wrapped my mother's present, I found the jar of face cream I had bought - I had wrapped my own half used one.
Food much appreciated by everyone - we agreed that strictly speaking we weren't allowed eggs or vinegar, but everyone but mum ate them (and we didn't tell her the baby had had a jar of 'chicken dinner' before she got back from church). I also let her get well into a mini-rant when she saw me holding something small, purple and shiny, before showing her it was curling ribbon (I wouldn't eat chocolate in front of a baby and a 4yo ever, not just on Good Friday).
Had a lift home when gd's OH arrived back from dealing with the horde of locusts at the SM (he had been worried they might have too many eggs) and had been fed and another card game or two.
Put my share of the leftovers away and was back in bed by 6.30pm. Gave up trying to go through my e-mails an hour later (dozed off 3 times sitting up) and slept till about 2am (did remember to take last pill of the day). Spent several more hours reading and dozing.
I have taken painkillers once in the last 24 hours (arms as well as legs aching - must be all the chopping and stirring) but now I seem to have achieve a state of zen blissfulness - nothing hurts, just feel really loose and relaxed, peaceful and looking forward to things. Just don't want to leave the bed, not in a hiding from the world way, more feel like I'm floating in a pool/ lying on the beach way
(dragged home the fatted calf, have a fridge full of fresh food, DS3 can eat what's there or order takeaway - just got his final grant installment and has more left than he expected0.
There is a leg of lamb to be cooked (sometime), I have thrown rubbish and recycling downstairs, the sheets and other bits will go to the wm sometime today but just for now - my body's gone on holiday (and no packing/ queuing / did I remember my pills/ lock the door/ turn off the gas - and at a super no cost whatsoever).

I've been over to the chalet and collected the washing which is now twirling and switched off the fridge because the next booking is three weeks away and turned the water off. I know it's a bit late for a snap frost, but the wind is bitingly cold here despite the sun and the last thing we need is a burst pipe. I dropped into Morries on the way back for a few veg and the first Jersey Royals are in! Yay!
When I met OH he had a pair of crystal champagne goblets he's bought for a girlfriend as an opening night present, but they'd split up before it happened. They cost a fortune, and he'd kept them all those years (20 at least) and not used them once - what a crying waste. We do pretty often now and they are very special to me because that's how both he and I got over 'saving things for best.' We are, right now, having the best of our lives, and we remind ourselves regularly how lucky we are to have the lives we do. We remembered to watch him on TV, on Thursday, and I have to say I wouldn't have recognised him in a million years!Better is good enough.0 -

Missing items this morning - 3
Missing items located today - 2
Missing payslip found tucked between other papers
Missing pencilcase found - phoned place where I went on a course a few weeks back as that was the last place I *knew* I had had it. Sure enough - it was there. Fortunately hotel is fairly local to me so I have been to collect it.
So just the chequebook to find.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
