Bought a car with disabled tax....
Options
Hi All,
I bought a car from a guy who advertised it as having 6 months remaining tax, I had a quick look at the time and noted the date as end of Oct 2014. However a day or so later it was brought to my attention by a friend that it was a disabled tax disk. Having contacted the guy via Facebook he has basically said he was unaware of this and as such he has no intention of refunding any monies due. I have a record of the conversation via facebook messaging where he admits driving the untaxed vehicle since November last year and also a screen shot of the advert for the car on sale.
Any help will be much appreceated.
Many Thanks
JD

Is this my only comeback though, surely it's not legal to sell a vehicle with false info, fraud surely ?0

You cannot legally drive the car until you have changed the TAx class. The gov. website says you have to do this by post or at a local office but these have all closed.
I believe you can now change the tax class at a Post Office but as I was told this by a car salesman it might not be true.
Was the guy who sold it the registered owner? If so then go back and ask/demand for the money to tax it. If he was selling as a dealer, same applies but if he was doing the owner a favour he may have made a genuine mistake.
Anyway you need to speak to him and ask for some money.0 -

I have asked him (registered owner, not trader) to compensate me, he is currently refusing. I'm looking for leverage on this, ie where can I threaten to report his fraudeluent use of the vehicle tax etc ?
Many Thanks.
