    Hi all

My sister that I'm caring for is 18 and is leaving sixth form and starting a college this September. I just got the letter on the post this morning and they said the award will end on 31st august this year. She is going on to study further A Levels and retaking GCSEs. I have been on the phone waiting for over 20min and no answer, I'll try again later but in the meantime, do I just tell them over the phone that she is staying on further studies?

    thanks
  • Hi,
Got my renewal letter today and says I'm entitled about 60 for the year so have already been overpaid and that I overpaid last year. Now my overpayment is about 600.
I applied in August as I only realised then that I would be entitled to anything as I hadn't realised having 3 kids instead of 2 would make a difference. Anyway, it doesn't explain why it's been overpaid, my circumstances haven't changed.
Also, they are going to take the payments off my current allowance but I can't see how they can as I've already been paid more than I should. I tried ringing but was on hold 15 mins before getting someone who couldn't help and then was put back on hold for another 10 mins before I gave up!
I'm due no.4 in a couple of weeks so should I just wait it out, inform them of new baby and see what happens then?
How do I work out why I've been overpaid? I presume it's because the actual pay is higher than my estimate as my income is so variable but I'm sure it wouldn't be more than about 2000 and I thought it would still be ok?
I just don't want to suddenly be landed with a demand for 600!

Received my pack today, along with a notice to pay.

I thought we might have underestimated hubby's wages as he is paid weekly and the amount of hours he does changes from week to week, but I am confused about future awards.

Here are the figures for 2014-2015

    Payments

    Total. 0.00

    Minus

    Payments already made. £76.18

    Overpayments collected so far. £25.39

If nothing else changes overpayment £101.57

    Overpayments

    Upto 5/4/2014. £296.45

From this award period. £ 101.57

    Amount overpaid. £308.02

    25.39 has already been collected
£26.10 is an adjustment to put your record right
£101.57 will be collected from future awards
£154.96 is due from you now.

    Tax credit payments

A payment of £2.23 will be made on 09/11/2015
Your payments will then change to £12.95 every 4 weeks until 28/03/2016

So, does thus mean that we will get no payments until November next year ??

Sorry never really got my head around tax credits

I have received my nhs exemption today but haven't had my renewal pack yet. Is this normal? as I'm slightly nervous as to why I've not had pack yet!! But do they auto renew nhs cards?

I see they are now only 6 months my new card expires oct.
  • Thank you very much for you reply
  • Do you know what your 2012/13 and 2013/14 income is?

    12/13 33000
    13/14 39638

Is it because it's an increase of 6638 from the previous year?

I had a NHS exemption card last year which I presume was issued when I was in receipt of the disability element. It was valid until June of this year.
I then came off the disability element and just had normal working tax credits.
I have now gone back to claiming disability element, and had an annual review in today dated 13th May, so will this mean that the NHS card I have is now valid again or do I need to wait until a new card comes in ?
  • Basically yes.

Tax credits is based on your previous year income unless your current year income is £5000 higher or £2500 lower.

So your 2013/14 claim should have been based on £34638 (the£39638 actually earned minus the £5000 disregarded). If you had left your income in your claim as £33000 for the full year then you'd have an overpayment for that year.

Your 2014/15 claim will now be based on the full £39638 (unless you've gave an estimate for 2014/15 which will then depend in what that is. If you have no childcare costs or no one in the household who is disabled then this is too high for 3 children.

Thanks. How will they take the overpayment then?
  • My income 14/15 will be about 600 less than this year. So am I right in thinking I don't need to say anything now, just wait for baby and see what happens?
  • Thanks so much for your help. I'm not entitled to SMP but dh has had a raise so covers what I would normally earn, which is why it'll be similar.
Thanks so much for your help. Was panicking about it!
