Turkey is completely different to chicken. My lurcher can't eat anything vaguely chicken, including foods containing poultry fat, but can eat turkey without any ill effects - it was our protein of choice on an exclusion diet he was on. That said, I'd only try it on a day you were around to deal with any potential negative effects.

Pets at Home do a tinned food in their own brand Wainwrights. It comes in a choice of flavours and the tins are 395g. There are also the wet trays by Wainwrights and Naturediet, but that could work out very expensive.
    It's such a minefield isn't it?!

I used to feed Kira a German brand called Lukullus which came in 800g tins - this was when we were trying to get weight on her and she was being really picky. Now she has Arden Grange Prestige dry which is much easier for us - she used to walk away from her bowl and having wet food kicking around in hot weather is not nice.

I feed mine wet & dry mixed, feeding good quality wet only is gonna be a bit pricey.... worth a think maybe?

I've gone down this route too - and am currently increasing the amount of wet / reducing kibble

Like many, all wet is too expensive (Maisie would need about 3 x 400g tins / trays of most of the better branded ones)

GR - I know you're looking at wet & will try to come up with some examples in a sec but have you tried a different brand of dry / base filler?

I really struggled to get Maisie's weight under control when she was on a fish & rice kibble (she lost 0.5kg in 5 months:eek:) but made big inroads by switching her to fish & potato kibble (she lost 3.5kg in 4 months :T)

Sadly the potato has made her itch so I've had to put her back to the fish & rice but she's now putting weight back on :( which is why I'm trying to increase the amount of wet / dry to see if that helps

Good quality ones in big tins - a couple I can think of on Zoo+

*I've found these quite rich so might not suit Zara - feeding guideline is 400g / 10kg bodyweight so approx 3.5 tins / day if you want her to lose a bit of weight

I realise that this may be a little off the wall', but have you thought about making your own dog food? I also feed Orijen at the moment, but buy Lily's Kitchen tinned food for high days and holidays, and I am seriously considering buying the 'Dinner for Dogs' cook book from Lily's Kitchen, mainly for the treats. Not sure how expensive it would be for you, GR, or whether you have enough spare time on the weekend to batch cook Zara's food for the following week.

    Thanks everyone.

Raw ( as buy raw meat and feed) or cooked at home are not an option I am afraid.

Only looking for "open a packet and feed" I am afraid.

Could be ready frozen raw if delivered on Saturday - no neighbour would take like 30kg frozen meat as they are 1) also working 2) even if at home, do not have/would not be willing to store frozen dog food

Will have a good look at options suggested at the weekend, thanks xx

One of my friends is currently raving about Nutriment, don't know if they deliver on a Saturday though.

I don't know if this would be an option for you, but Aldi do large tins of dog food, 89p per tin. I think they're about 1kg each. A few different flavours. Might be worth a go?

Thanks but I am not after saving money on pet food but rather looking for quality food.

Ordered about 40 pauches of Burns (lamb) from Zooplus yesterday. I did not want Burns really but will try.

Works out terribly expensive but I rather get good quality food and mix with her current Orijen than get cheap tins - Zara's stomach is very sensitive so..

She was on Burns before (years back) and loved it - will see how we get on...

Thanks for all the replies xx

They might not be bad quality though. If you have an Aldi near you, perhaps pop in and read the ingredients list? My dog is on mainly dry food, but gets porridge in the morning and I sometimes mix a little bit of Aldi tinned food in there. She loves it and it has had no ill effects on her tummy or bowels.
