Chatting generally to people not on MSE I am concerned that most seem unaware of the proposed changes. I think a lot of private sellers are in for a shock come mid May.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. New rules are great for me I think. I don't sell more than about 15/20 items a month anyway. I can understand private sellers maybe clearing a house for a relative and having many more but realistically how often does that happen. I think there may be many 'private' sellers who really are running little businesses.0

Well I have not finished clearing the stuff given to me by a neighbour when he went into a home and have now had half a garage full of stuff dumped on me by a family member having a clearout. If I didn't take it he was taking it to the tip and there is some good stuff in there. The reason they all dump on me is that I have the time and patience to deal with it and they don't. So I am going to be needing a lot of listings for the foreseeable future as I am also breaking up some of my own collections - full time but definitely not a business!0 -
Just read a message ebay sent out entitled 'Good news for private sellers' . They're changing the insertion fees and seem to think they're doing everyone a favour. They're not. Private sellers with shops are about to get sucker punched. They state they're giving 100 free listings to shop owners, despite the fact we're paying £19.99 a month for a shop. We previously had 200 free listings. So they will half what we are paying for. All listings over the first 100 will then be 0.35p per listing. Meaning we have to pay £35 extra to get back to 200.Forgive me ebay if I don't see that as good news. They've reduced the final fee percentage from 10% to 8% which means you'd need to make upwards of £1700 a month to make your £35 back. What a joke! How greedy do u need to be ebay?!0

What kind of private seller has that much to list every month? Very few surely? Unless they are actually a business.
Also, there's another thread about this..0 -
Forgive me if I don't start a business up whilst trying to clear out my garage. ( I don't have any where near 200 items but I do like to relist the same stuff after 7 or 10 days as I find you get sales on the last days more)The point I was trying to make is that if you're going to cut a paid service in half, then you shouldn't have to pay more. Thanks, I'll find the other thread0

You're assuming that every seller uses 200 listings/month. I'm not doubting that Ebay do everything to maximise their profits but it looks as though this won't be a net gain for them. I'd guess there will be more gainers than losers on this one. They've reduced the final fee percentage from 10% to 8% which means you'd need to make upwards of £1700 a month to make your £35 back. You might actually benefit from upgrading to an ebay business account- if it is your own stuff you are selling it won't mean you have to declare yourself as such with HMRC- just keep photos etc of all the stock pile in case HMRC ever do ask.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. No private seller needs 100 listings a month and all the ever sold, or should I say relisted, was junk for 99p. 20 fixed price auctions is so much more useful as you don't have to wait for the regular free listing day to come along and can start when you want.0
