  • Oxford Mark,

Just off the hone with EE/Orange we're sorry your leaving department (customer retenion guys).
Told them I had spoken to Ofcom quoted the...
    Ofcom is likely to regard ANY increase3 to the recurring monthly subscription charge4 in a fixed-term contract as ‘materially detrimental’ to consumers;

Said that this price rise was materially detrimental to me and I wanted to leave without penalty.

Their response was to reduce my bill from £36 a month to £32 a month with no extension to my contract nor reduction in my service/bundles.

I accepted this, though when the time comes fo renewal, I will take my business elsewhere, to a company that respects teh nature of a fixed term fixed prce contract, but £4 a month off as opposed to an immoral increase worked for me in the short term. Complain politely but know your rights.

I was offered a more expensive tarrif, but with more data.

I am going to call them later to reject it and see what they say.

  • Mark,

Do go back to them make sure you get the disconnection guys and stay polite but keep on track.

Say you are acting on the advice of Ofcom who you phoned earlier and in line with that advice this price rise is materillay detrimental to you (don't be fobbed off with the its only 2.7% - Ofcom state ANY price rise is materially detrimental to customers). As such you would like to be released from your contract without penalty again in line with the Ofcom ruling.

I am sure you are not allowed to swear on here but EE/Orange are a bunch of filthy 4 letters words. Take teh discount the when your contract expires go elsewhere and use your discounted rate to negotiate with the next supplier. Make sure you tell them why you are leaving as well.

If we don't then every other supplier will think they can do it as well.

glad i didnt go with EE now too!

i think the way forward is Payg. they cannot hike prices then.

and you find that you have a much better market position on buying handsets cheaper.

I am seriously considering going back to pay as you go. I rarely text more than 10-15 times a month, only call when I really need to (even then, it's rare) and only really use the internet.

Have a complaint running through currently - those of us signing up on the £8 black friday offer are on the £16 contract with a £8 discount applied. This means the price increase is applied on the £16, with no corresponding discount increase - i.e. you've been hit with a 5.4% increase.

Just got my letter this morning. Mine's working out at an extra 70p per month.

Luckily my contract ends on 2nd July so will only be hit slightly then I'm off.

I got my letter informing me of the 2.7% increase, but reading through it, it seems like the 2.7% is on the full price ie £16 (£16.43) and then the discount of £8; so monthly cost is now £8.43 (5.4% increase).

Or was it a 50% discount, if so it would be £8.22 (2.7% increase) and will they round the increase up or down ie £16.43 or £16.44? Luckily I can renew my contract mid June, so will be renewing it down or cancelling and moving to 3's 321 PAYG.

    Hi,

After reading the posts on here I picked up my phone and called EE. I got through to a call centre in India, where the first person was confused with what I was requesting - to cancel my contract PENALTY FREE, due to Material Detriment to me. She gave up and passed me over to the supervisor.

He kept on going round and round in circles, we were having a chat in the end! I could tell he felt sorry for me but wouldn't budge on the contract. He did offer more usage on the internet, which I declined.

I came back to this thread, followed it back to find the template and have just sent off an email. I am keeping everything crossed to get out of this contract!
