She's currently got a 5 year old Macbook with Windows XP on Bootcamp. Seems too much bother and very expensive to upgrade to Bootcamp and Windows 7. So may simply drop Windows altogether and if this Macbook gets upgraded to a newer one, not gonna bother with Bootcamp there either. Just have to substitute some favourite legacy Windows progs with Mac equivalents.
So Microsofts attitude looks to be a potential bonanza for Apple. MS really is trying to write itself out of home computing history.
Meanwhile at work, Windows 7 is still the default workstation install with no plans to ever move to that abomination Windows 8.0

I tried VirtualBox, but found it a bit clunky, so I bought VMware Fusion, which is pretty good.0

I am thinking of setting up my old AMD64 desktop with react OS on it instead of XP as one of the OSs on the dual boot.
Just for lols and it involves getting it down from the attic and getting a powerline adaptor for it as the one I previously used for it has been given to the TV.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I tried Virtualbox and much more clunky (not suited to her indoors). But not prepared to shell out for more expensive options when Bootcamp is free.0

I wonder what the justification is for I hear the civil service is spending £5 million pounds on extending support for XP. Drivers, I expect. If they try to upgrade to 7 or 8, lots of their PCs can't get drivers for various bits and pieces. Not the right time to buy new PCs for the entire civil service, expect.
They'll have a lot of bespoke software that still hasn't been updated to work on anything newer than XP. They'll also have a load of intranet apps that haven't been updated to work on anything other than IE6.
In general the more specialist a piece of software is, the less well written it is, the more expensive it is to upgrade and the longer it takes the vendor to even put out an update. That's assuming the vendor still even exists.0
