The other day I was at the shops picking up some baby food and essentials. I only had a basket worth so went through the self checkout. I scanned everything and bagged everything up, only to notice that one of the jars of baby food hadn't scanned but the checkout supervisor was none the wiser.... so.. I paid and left..... They were 38p but my brain kept tossing and turning about whether I should have just been honest and paid... but on the other hand it was 38p we could be able to get another thing of baby food with because moneys tight....
What would you do? Obviously I'm not talking about grand theft but little things that you forget to pay for etc.....
Edit: oh and for the record shoplifting is not a hobby of mine!!

We shopped in tescos a couple of months back and the checkout girl realised half way through ringing our shopping through that the scanner wasn't working properly. She rectified it and carried on. She never asked us for the bagged stuff back to check off what had scanned or not. When she told me how much I thought it sounded cheap. I paid up and left. When we got back to the car I checked down the receipt and then looked back at my list and we had about £7.50 worth of stuff in our bags that had not scanned. I felt bad about it and was thinking about going back, but she was daft enough not to ask us to unpack it all so she could check, so we went home!Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015

I would have owned up. You should be ashamed of yourself!
This is why this country is going to hell in a handcart. It's the thin end of the wedge - 38p groceries today - armed bank robbery and murder the next. Mark my words!!
p.s. I'd have done the same, it's not like you popped it into your pocket. They made a mistake and so it's their tough luck.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

I think everyone has probably had a moment where this has happened.
It's just the same as getting too much change back - do you go back to the shop and hand over the 38p telling them you were given too much?
i'd think 99% of people would keep quiet, however if you had been charged for something which you didn't ourchase - that would be a different story all together.......
Like Quidco - you buy something for a friend/relative online but do it via quidco - do you tell them and half the cash back or just give them stuff they ordered and keep schtum?

If THEY fail to ring through they can hardly accuse you of theft.
BUT if you're scanning it through its different.
I'm not saying you are a shop lifter or anything, but I would have been too scared to leave, if they had challanged you they would have said you didn't bother to scan them & what could you have said!!!0 -
In my opinion it's theft.

But I'd do exactly the same! :rotfl:
Edit: Except I wouldn't be buying baby food! :undecided0 -
