Can we please have some example sizes and lengths of trenches dug to accommodate each of your respective GSHPs?
Thx.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -

Mines an Air Source as well.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

I assumed that the costs involved with air source were not worth it even after the RHI credits.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0

My ASHP probably cost about £3-3.5k more than an LPG or oil boiler with all the supporting stuff (tank, pipework, hard standings etc)
It's using about 4000-4500kwh of electricity a year (£500-£550) to heat and provide hot water to my 140sq.m detached bungalow.
My EPC reckons that I'd need about 15,000kwh so work out what that would be with either oil or LPG - quite a lot more than £550 a year. Seeing tankers (both gas and oil) making multiple visits up and down my road in the winter convinces me of that. Mains gas would probably still be cheaper but I can't get it where I live.
On top of that I'll now get £671.20 per year RHI for the next seven years, so as far as I'm concerned it's a reasonable return on my investment. I thought it was a reasonable deal even without the RHI.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

As Matelodave says it is very worthwhile...
It's been that long that I'd given up on the RHI but with the low running costs of the ASHP vs my old LPG system it was not to much of an issue. Always looked on the RHI as a bonus, not something critical to make the numbers stack up.
A completely new oil or LPG system was priced and not massively cheaper than the ASHP especially when our running costs are about a third of LPG. Note we used LPG frugally [cold most of the time] compared to our ASHP usage where we are warm all the time in the colder months.
Only yesterday I was chatting to a Calor LPG engineer who said most people are now moving to renewables which makes LPG dearer due to a smaller customer base and his job harder as he travels the whole of Scotland now. Not hopeful for LPGs long term future...
Where I live ASHPs seem to be popping up everywhere
Cheers
PS The RHI seems to support Biomass now but a mate who is having it installed recons even after the RHI it will be similar to the cost of oil. My thought is... why bother then!? Or get another quote...0 -
So myself, typical urban living in Herts where I have a has supply, and where a GSHPb will not be viable purely because, due to the size of my property and needing a 10kw system, I would have to dig up all of my garden and it still wouldn't be enough ground.
To install a similar powered system but for air source, what sort of requirements will I need to have and do you think I'm better off just sticking to my gas boiler?Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -

We are off mains gas grid here.
Best stick with GCH if you have it.

How ignorant of me thinking that every house in Britain had a gas supply. Being a Londoner I think we think the rest of country are getting as good as us.
Next someone might tell me they don't get minimum broadband speeds of at least 60mb /sec...... :PBe ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
